Finally, signs of life!

My Geffner Atemoya, and Makok Sapodilla after almost a year of dormancy (in the ground) are FINALLY sprouting new growth! I was worried that the Geffner was dead. The leaves had long ago started to shrivel fall off, the Makok had not seen a bud in a year.
Is this unusual? Has anyone else seen this on their trees?

The atemoya is deciduous. It drops its leaves in winter and grows like a race horse in the spring. The sapodillas put out new growth during the winter. Jeff

Hi Jeff I have a Hasya sapodilla that been on the ground for almost 2 years and has been flowering non stop for the last year but it hasn't set any fruits. It has been growing steadily but nothing spectacular. Can I expect this tree to accelerate its growth rate after its second year on the ground like an avocado tree? JF

Yep. It does take a couple of years for the sapodilla to root out and really start growing. Their root system is not that vigorous. Jeff
