at a Nursery here once an old man told me they grew "Naseberry" in Atlanta. i guess there are cold hardy varieties

My "Alano" naseberry tree came through the cold spell with flying colours. I think you are right, Mango Kush. Looks like they can tolerate a certain amount of cold.

Ditto on the Alano sapodilla. Mine is kept at about 12 feet and sustained hardly any damage in this past freeze event. I'm impressed.

Sounds like we all agree Alano Sapodilla is a fairly cold tolerant tree. Just looked at mine again today and noticed a few more sections have grown out from the other day.

last year, I intended to grow my Alano as an indoor tree. It stayed inside by a window for a year and actually put out new growth, despite the low light.

Now that I know it is hardy, I may plant it in the ground w/protection.

I have read that the wood of the Alano is less "brittle" than other types of sapodilla, this might contribute to it's hardiness.
