Don't have the answer on the roots, but have you thought about how the pollinator insects will get to the mango flowers with the flowers screened in?

I was gonna hand pollinate them. I read its cumbersome but doable. Any thoughts?

my papaya trees roots do not damage my house slab
neither do the roots for my Mulberry
(and its 20ft tall)
the mulberry just plowed big roots underneath it.
i had to cut them,, but only for a termite inspection.

i actually water my papaya ONLY on the area between
the house and the plant.
so the roots will grow toward the house on purpose.
this way, they dont freeze in winter :)

Raycares. if it was me, I would keep them potted for a few years and see if the hand pollination in the screen porch works before I put them in the ground in there. Then if you find that it doesn't, easier to just move it outside to the yard rather than having to dig them up.

Of the 3 you mention, I only have a Mallika (in a 28 gal tub outdoors), only had it a couple years old and got one fruit from it last year. But my Nam Doc Mai had 2 fruits while in a 7 gal pot in the ground now a blooming, and my Pickering set 1 fruit last year while still in it's 3 gal (I eventually removed the fruit, plant looked like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree) it is in a 7 gal pot now and blooming also. So you should be able to get yours to fruit in a 7 or 15 gal pot.

Ray - I've heard/read that they have large tap roots that prefer to go straight down, as well as smaller feeder roots on the surface. I've planted mine both near the house and sidewalks and never had a problem....
