Seedling sugar apples do quite well in a container - especially Noel Ramos' 'Big Red'. I've had one in a 7gallon container for 4 years now and it has borne fruit consistently since I got it. I can't say the same about the grafted kampong mauve though. I'm on year 4 of waiting for mine to actually set a fruit :-(. And seedlings from the kampong mauve sometimes bear green fruit!

2-3 years?? Congrats though! When you see the sections start to separate and you see some whiteness...even if still hard, cut them and set them on your counter. They will ripen up nicely in a few days.

Looking forward to the grafted Big Red I got from Jeff to begin fruiting.

Congrats Robert, what color were they? I have my first fruit on a seedling KM tree right now, it took about 4-5yrs. from seed. Red fruit BTW. I was very lucky to try Noel's red and green sugar apples this past summer, very good, planted the seeds.

Ethan - they were green, these are just seedlings. Now I have to go after a 'Big Red.' Sources?

This won't look like much to some of you...like I said, proof of concept...should I have picked it sooner? It just didn't look big enough to pick. On the other hand, it required that I stake the poor little tree holding it.

Congratulations, Robert. Yeah, that sugar apple is a bit beyond its prime. But, as you say, now you know it can be done. Now you just have to perfect the art.
