Just couple photos taken today, Jabos have really good size this time. So far have had good results with new netting in keeping out the bats.

Good heavens man! Those jabs are enormous! I bet they taste pretty good too! Sort of wish I had one going in the greenhouse but just never got around to getting one. Looks like you have a bumper crop of longans too. Nice job. Thanks for the pics.

Any progress on the garcinia blooms?

Thanks J, of course you know had to look for the biggest for the picture. :)

For the first time I added high phosphate ferilizer last year and added a little regular fertilizer when fruit just started growing.

Nothing new with the garcinias, but I do remember at the time getting what was labled as dulcis and laterifolia, so maybe they got mixed up.

Had hoped they would have been mature by now. I guess its longer that the 4 months I was checking it as.

Very nice. That'll be good eating. Ever dry longans? I have 4 small jabos, plus a few from seed from a guy from Brazil, in 10 short years they might do something for me. My sweetheart lychee is in flower, that'll be interesting.

How bout some pics of the jab tree with the fruit on? That's always a cool pic. You guys are really making me regret not getting one while down in FL last year. Wonder how Gerry's jab is doing? Stressbaby had a jab that was not a jab that may have been a jab or some kind of jab! He was getting some fruit from it.

Wow- very impressive! I bet those Jabs tasted great.
I found the plants to be so slow growing, I don't know if I will ever see the day mine fruits. I have only seen large trees in fruit, mine is still just a small bush.

What do Longans taste like? I have 2 sapling from seeds, but have many years before they are fruiting size.

Yes Jobos are really slow growing, I think everyone who has one once thought they would never get to fruiting size. But then one day,,,your first flowers.
Had a friend who got a small plant and forgot about it in the pot. It wasn't until I visited and pointed out to him the 3 fruit on the little tree that he knew it was fruiting.

As for longan taste, I have never been good at describing fruit flavors, but I love a good one. One thing is unlike lychee there are no tangy flavors to it.

The tree is about 10 feet tall, give or take. Started fruiting about 3 or 4 years ago, but the last two years have been the best.

Thanks all, wish all of them were that big.
Wish I had pictures from in the day when my friend still had property with 20 foot jabo trees.

    awesome pics ronald-
what brand netting did you use and did you construct some type of frame overwhich to spread the netting or did you put it directly on the tree? also how did you seal the various ends of the netting together to form an enclosure around the tree.

jay- my jab is hanging on- unlike the citrus and mango trees which seem be doing pretty well in my garage, my jab has lost about half of its leaves. dont know why its unhappy- maybe insufficient humidity.
will buy a humidifier for the garage before next winter. for now, im pretty sure the jab will survive the next six weeks or so i need to keep it in the garage

Will email you the brand netting that I got.
The net was put directly on the tree. Reason being one, it's easier and two, they are going to have to do duty on different trees so needed to be able to move it easily.
Didn't worry about the ends being perfectly sealed, just used wire hooks or simply tied it with plastic ties. Even for me its hard to see where the gaps are.

funny thing about my jab is during the summer, when i had owned the tree for a few weeks i would still inspect it once a week to see if my tree somehow managed to blossom- yes i would check even though jabs take about 10 years to blossom and that is in florida- i am growing mine in NY in a pot. Such is my lunacy.

Well you never know every once in a while you get a plant that never read the hand book.

lycheeluva, I have eaten some variety of home grown jabs. May not be the same species, exactly (we never could decide), but it sure didn't take 10 years.

Stressbaby , now you have me curious, have you got any other pictures of the tree?

Does it fruit on the trunk like the regular jabos?

Ronald ~ I would like some info on the netting also. I don't need it for my longan, I need it for my peach trees. The squirrels steal my fruit when they are still green.

This is what the bats do to unprotected longans in my area.
Of course it would be a huge hassle to net if trees were allowed to get too tall.

Picking longan now, not the biggest fruit , but pretty good nonetheless.
