newbie guava questions

just bought a couple of guava(Psidium guajava) in 3 gallon container last week. Any recommendation as to how long i should leave them in the pot? Since they're just bout 4 ft tall, should i plant them in container(bigger ones) this year and move to the ground next year, or..?

and how often do i water these things?

I'd get it in the ground as soon as spring has sprung. It should do fine with the Houston area weather. They will take as much water, as long as it is not standing water, as you want to give it. Good luck with it.

Probably would do fine in a pot for a good while...but why would you want to grow in a pot if it will do better in ground?
