Maybe canistel?

Whatever it is, it looks healthy!

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it's either cinnamon apple (Pouteria hypoglauca) or canistel. I might be leaning more towards cinnamon apple.

Thanks to both of you. I do remember getting a seed for canistel a couple years ago. I guess I can put the tree in the ground now that I know what it is.

Are you sure you want to put a canistel in the ground?

:-) Canistel is actually a great fruit. It's super sweet, nutritious, and quite yummy once you get the hang of it. It fruits twice a year and holds the fruit for many months at a time. I can usually pick fruit from my canistel for almost 6 months of the year. It's also nice having something to chomp on during late 'winter' and early spring when few other fruits are in season.

Was it hard to germinate?
I brought a seed from the Philippines and it sat in a pot for months and I finally gave up on it sprouting so left it out in the cold.
It's a popular fruit there and kind of an old-timey treat...

im with jeff- canistel prob wouldnt get eaten by many during the summer but in the dead of winter. its a very nice treat

Canistel takes a few months to sprout, unless you remove the hard shell.

Murahilin, I don't mind growing it. I can feed the excess fruit to my chickens. If I can stand cashew, I think I can stand the canistel. lol
Tropicaliste, it must have taken long to germinate because I just found the plant and that is why I didn't know what it was. I think I got the seed in January '09, stuck it in a pot somewhere and now I found this plant growing. Two cold winters didn't seem to bother it.

You've inspired me to go diggin in the garden for that seed, lol maybe I can get it to sprout this year. I didn't know they had an"inner-seed".
