Wow...those are GREAT pictures!! I miss really Lanzones, Chico,Santol to name a few...I grew up eating eating most of the fruits you have listed and a few others when I was a kid. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Thanks for sharing your pictures! Love to go back and visit again someday.

The last time I was in Philippines, rambutan was in season & I would eat them almost every day.

I remember a santol vendor(similar to an ice cream vendor), would pass by with santol & jars of bagoong(shrimp paste). A fresh cut santol, a lil bit of bagoong, and you have a nice snack.

I also remember eating lanzones, which to me was similar to lychee. This was before I had a chance to taste longans.

Yes you must go back and enjoy them again :) the particular Lanzones from here weren't so good, I'll dig up the pic from this one solo vendor in my hometown that had just the sweetest Lanzones. p.s. my cousin won't let me leave without a parcel of those dried Tamarind candies. Aren't they good?

I hadn't tried Marang ever and my family never heard of it, and I tried to explain that it is similar to Langka(Jackfruit) but I think I let it go a bit too long because the scent wafted out of the fridge and they begged me to just eat it already. I'd like to buy two the nexttime and eat one right away and keep one just for seeds that I won't open until right before I leave... the seeds I kept moist germinated then rotted and the seeds I kept drier dried out.

Santol is neat because once it is peeled it's like two fruits... the tart shell (like you said served with bagoong) and the sweet sections, but I get tired of trying to suck the fruit off the seeds...
Did you like the Lanzones? The sweetness should be like a delicate sweetness and akin to a cross between a delicious grape and a citrus.
