myrtle family gettin' along

I plead ignorance and laziness. Since guavas and crepe myrtles are both in the myrtle family, can guava scions be successfully grafted onto crepe myrtles for obvious benefits? Like bolting a Corolla bumper to a Mercedes to improve the Corolla bumper's place in life.

Usually if they're not in the same genus the degree of compatibility is much lower. If they were able to be grafted together the tree would most likely show stunted growth.
