The following is from a friend growing in PR.

"It looks to be a good 'other' rambutan but there are better and bigger ones. And funkier species, too. The aril can be somewhat thin but it is supposed to be very tasty."

If you have room for something unique that could possibly turn out to be pretty good, then I would go for it. Otherwise, stick with a good variety rambutan...which I believe you ought to include either way.

The only trouble with this species is some are cold sensitive. The reason I considered it was that it really looks identical to the lychee (skin and color of fruit, leaves and tree) except its fruit is oval and taste is supposed to be sweet/sour. If its as sensitive as the Rambutan, I dont think it would survive the couple days of the year it drops to the low 30's here.
