Both are precocious and will fruit in a 3 gallon container.. unless you get a grafted kampong muave sugar apple which has a reputation for being a very stingy producer.

The sugar apple can happily stay in a 15 gallon container for several years. The star fruit can stay in a container for a decent while, but not quite as long as the sugar apple. Kari appears to be a slightly slower growing cultivar than the others and the fruit quality is excellent.

carambola is a hardy tree, it would take canopy and root pruning with no problem.

Very true - I tore out a 12 foot tall carambola with 4 inch trunk and moved it into a pot (a severe canopy and root pruning :-) yet it had no issue.
