Pomegranate in 25"x15" Container - A Newbie

Hello!

I'm terrible in gardening. I joined this site some time ago and started reading regularly for a couple months now. I have a lot of questions!

Let's start with pomegranate. I was given one called Wonderful - the type often grown in California. I'm told it is 1+ yr old, it's about 3 feet tall from root to top. I can't plant in-ground and I've read about a dozen threads in this site about pomegranate in containers - within these threads, the experienced gardeners seem to suggest container pomegranates are decorative only (a specific time of dwarf pom) and fruit is inedible.

Given that my pom is 'Wonderful' and supposed to produce edible fruit, could I plant this in a large 25" x 15" container? Or would it just be a waste of time or get stunted and won't produce?

Also, from research, pom likes dry soil and sunshine and no need for fertilizer. What kind of soil should I use? I bought organic potting soil from Kellogg - is this OK or is it too rich and need to mix with mulch or something?

And any hints would be appreciated and awesome!
