Babaco fruit drop

karyn1

I got a couple very small babacos last year. They flowered but the buds either dropped immediately after opening or soon after. The fruit never grew more then an inch. I just noticed a bud on one and I'd love if they held the fruit this season. They've at least doubled in size but are still fairly small, about 2.5' - 3' and I did allow them to go dormant over the winter so there's not a lot of foliage yet. I dig in a bit of compost at the beginning of the season and fertilize infrequently, about every 6-8 weeks. Any recommendation on how to keep them from dropping fruit? I haven't had problems with regular papayas.
