That's a tough question, I've never had mangosteens last long enough to find out! Keep in mind that they are shipped from Thailand and most arrive here pretty decent. Once you start eating them, longevity is no longer an issue.
DH finally found some for me through his orchid supplier in Thailand but I have to buy a 15 lb minimum. I love mangosteens but that's a lot at once if they only keep a short time. I'll probably buy them regardless. If worse comes to worse I guess I could freeze some.
Believe me...15lbs is not that many. They will go faster than you think possible. They are usually 4-5 fruit per lb. For me...that would be sitting down at the table once...then done.
The ones I purchased at the asian markets(from Thailand, I beleive) are irradiated and stayed fresh for about 5 days. It would depend how fresh you got them and its very difficult to tell. Simon
