mangosteen now available in NYC's china town

The first mangosteen for the season hit town on friday. they are supberb- i have already demolished 8 pounds (with a little help from my friends and fam- but mainly me!

the percentage of blemish free fruit seems to be higher than last year. Maybe they have been able to cut down the travel time. just a shame they are so damn expensive. The price will probably go down by a dollar or two per pound, during the height of the season, but right now, china town are selling them for $9 a pound which comes to approx $2 per fruit. the wholesaler (where you have to buy a box at a time (15 pounds) is selling them for $7.33 a pound.

Good to hear they are better this year. It must suck to pay so much for a fruit and have half of them be bad. Hopefully there will still be some left when I head up there. I moved my trip up to mid july in hopes of having a little better selection of stuff to try.
