hmmmm....james.....it is a little strange to have a mango start to flower now, but sure it can happen....did you just buy it recently?

I live in Palm Springs and we also have frosts as late as Feb - March. I think it's all up to mother nature as to when mangos flower - generally around March for me, but I had a couple flower earlier, but I had recently planted them last fall so perhaps they were affected by where they last lived.... Also, with a warmup in January or so, the mangos can be stimulated to throw out flowers. BUT....they generally will flower a second time if the flowers do get frosted and die....that's the good news...

I think the important thing is to plan for winter protection from Dec. through March - good coverings and supplemental heat on the really cold nights - and that will give your mangos the best chance to grow, flower and fruit for many years to come....

Yes this is mango I ordered from POG early this year. I only repotted to 7 gallon pot and add osmocote and some fish emulsion. On the other hand my timotayo mango is very slow growing compare to nam doc Mai.
About Keow Savoy that I'm trying to get I believe that it will get pretty big wide and tall once i plant in ground and might be too difficult to protected from frosted.

I'm still debating of what I'm gonna get between Keow Savoy, lychee, or Satsuma tangerine. I've read a lot of unsuccesful to get lychee to fruit productively in Socal due to lack of humid and strong wind.

James- I would recommend satsuma out of the three. I currently have a Miho Satsuma tree that gave me 2 wonderful fruit last year and already has 5 little green ones this year. Keep in mind that this tree is only 3 1/2 feet tall.
