Not sure which species of kiwi you have there. I only grew Actinidia chinensis (which is the kiwi you get in the stores). This, I found to be an extremely vigorous plant! I had mine on a fence I share with a neighbor. It is such a heavy, luxuriant vine I had to rip it down as it was invading the neighbor's property. It does naturally climb but you still may train some of the vines. Make sure your trellis is strong enough to support the weight of these vigorous vines. I was out in the yard today and saw mine are beginning to grow again, from the roots...even after the a Winter from an Arctic hell! So, even the semi-tropical varieties are quite cold hardy, btw! My summer weather is extremely humid with good rain, if you are dry, you will need to water. It may not be as lush in your climate (but this may not be a bad thing). Here, vines wanna take over the world. LOL.

I grow mine on simple "fences" made out of t-posts and clothes line wire. I train the vines to grow along the wire by wrapping them once or twice each year. Once the vine is growing in the direction you want, you will have to prune it often to keep it in line, otherwise it will attempt to take over the world. They can easily grow 15 feet a season. I prune mine every month during the warm part of the year. If there are any trees or tall structures nearby that they can touch they will race to the top of them - which is why you have to prune, prune, prune. Pruning also helps keep the fruit where you can easily pick it.
