I can say this, my in ground Geffner atemoya is twice as large as my potted sugar apple, and the Geffner produces scads of flowers which I have painstakingly hand pollinated all to no avail, there is only one fruit on the tree. The Geffner is not supposed to need help pollinating itself.

The little sugar apple OTOH has nearly a dozen fruits on it. For me I'll take a lesser fruit over none at all.

Like some other trees I have, I'm trying to be patient but I'm going to chop it in a couple of years and put the sugar apple in its place if its productivity doesn't get better.

Are you keeping the sugar apple in a pot or planning on transplanting? Where did you pick it up? Excaliber? Do you find it grainy or is that maybe just inferior ones they're selling? The ones I had were filled with unholy amounts of seeds.

My plant came from Pine Island. Right now it's one of the trees I'm keeping in a pot as a "backup" in the event a tree dies this coming winter, or I don't like the production or taste of one in the ground.

I find them sweet with a nice texture, and seeds don't bother me. LOTS of great fruit have many seeds like watermelon, carambola, guava etc. and it doesn't stop me from eating any of them one bit :-)
