This plant doesn't look like red guava. Is it red inside or total red fruit?

Its hard to see, but from what i can tell,,
that pot looks pretty small

i am in Louisiana also, i know we get very hot,
and lots of hard direct sun.
a little black pot can act like a solar cooker.
it will heat up the roots.

put it in the ground,, or, at least a much larger pot.
you have time now for it to get established before winter.

and , personally, i would prune the very tip of that plant
just 2 inches or so , to make it bush out a bit.
(the very tip, and maybe even the 2 young leaves)

my guavas are white, but it shouldnt matter.
this last winter mine lost all its leaves, but came back strong.
and as you know, it was a hard winter.
