Reluctant Pink Guava

Valdo

Bought a guava at the Farmer's market a few weeks ago, doing well in the direct Louisiana sun, small pot, waiting for the roots to swell and swirl into a good ball before I put it in the ground, but the top split leaves have suddenly drooped.

Must I rush and put it in the ground, do I need to wait for a root ball to form?

Is this one dying? I have had a lot of trouble growing red guava in Louisiana, advice?
