The problem with hoses

I have a well (TG) that I use to water all of my plants, and trees but dragging long hoses around the yard breaks plants, moves stone plant rings, and wears the hoses on corners. I tried the puny 8" or so commercial hose guides from orbit but the hoses just pull them out of the ground. There's a MUCH less expensive and better solution in the Home Depot.

I bought a bunch of 24" Re-bar and hammered them into the ground until there was lots of resistance (about 18" down) and then slipped a 1/2" by ~4"-6" piece of PVC sprinkler pipe on it, and cap it with a bright orange Re-bar cap. They do NOT move when the hose pulls on them, the sprinkler pipe rotates on it like it had a bearing under it, and the whole thing looks like a garden mushroom!

....I can picture that gnappi - brilliant - the PVC pipes rattling in rotation as the hose pulls across them

but even more brilliant in my book is the invention of automatic sprinkler systems - VERY easy to install these days and saves one untold HOURS of hand-holding and hose-dragging labor.

....that is, unless you love doing what you're doing now, then I would be the last one to suggest you take that out of your life, especially now that you've found a very practical solution!

Either way, you've simplified your watering goals.....

I have sprinklers, they put too much water some places, and not enough others. I have 3/4 of the system capped off. If you saw my yard you would see why :-)

Is your dog a border collie/Australian shepherd mix? I have your dog's tin sister!! I couldn't believe how much alike they look. Give me your email and I will send you a picture of my dog Mollie.

My husband solved a similar hose problem for me by getting connectors and a holder to roll up the hose upon. He got a long length of hose and connected it to the hose reel box then got another long length of hose to attach to the hose reel. The hose reel box is hidden right in plain site out there where my potted trees are so I don't have to keep dragging the hose out there anymore. Having to drag it out there all the time was such a drudgery. My husband wanted my groaning to stop so he put this together for me. Now the only hassle is having to go up the side of the house to turn the water on and off! So far so good and the hose now reaches everything easily!

Still can't believe how much our "unique" dogs look alike!!

Hi Marin,

"Sparky" is an Aussie / Lab mix. We got her from a breeder near Orlando who had one of her female Black Labs taken advantage of by an 8' fence climbing horny aussie. She was in a litter of 12, 4 were her blue merle coloration, four chocolate labs,and four black lab... go figure genetics :-) I know of several dolts who tried to get this coloration and wound up with the blue merle genetic defect and had blind and or deaf animals as a result.

You are right, this color variation is unique, people take pics of my dog while driving about town.

Anyway, I don't mind watering my yard in the least, my only snag like you is going to turn on the pump!
