Awesome- love those things! That is a pretty small fruit for the species, but it is BIG considering the diameter of the trunk of this particular tree!

We are heading down to Sanibel next Thursday. I am planning to make a trip to Pine Island to get some fruit. Any recommendations on a good fruit stand to hit that sells a lot of different fruit (like jackfruit!!!)?

Yeah...the fruit is smaller on the NS-1 but the taste is superior to other varieties. You have to stop in at the Treehouse Nursery fruit stand. They're opened on the weekends starting at 10:00 on Fridays. By the time you get there the jakfruit should be ready. The best (in my opinion and many others) is the NS-1. The texture is kind of like crunchy juicy fruit gum.

The stand is about a 1/2 mile or so before you get to Harbor Drive in Bokeelia. The nursery is located off of Harbor and you really should see it. It's a pretty amazing place.

Your photo reminded me of some of the pics at the Ty Ty Nursery website. (Except that your nephew does not look goofy, as opposed to the Ty Ty "models".)

Thanks, I will plan on Treehouse and a NS-1 if available! I'm honestly not sure what cultivar I'm used to eating- we used to get them at the local farmers markets when we lived on Kauai. Those were so large that they rarely sold a whole one, so the idea of a smaller fruit has some appeal.

The NS-1 should be available. That's the problem with the larger fruited varieties....not too many people have the storage space.
