Please help my Rose Apple tree!!!

Hello,

I bought a Rose Apple tree a few years ago when it was about 12 inches tall. Now its over 6 feet but the size of the trunk is very thin, an inch wide. What is the best way to get the trunk to grow wider and stronger?

Also, I want to air layer a few branches, what is the best method (this will be my first time attempting air layering). Any help is deeply appreciated.

No, Was I suppose to? How should I prune it? The trunk is about four feet tall and the rest are branches covered with leaves.
