Those are caterpillars. In fact, those are the same ones(same type) that were eating my passion fruit leaves a couple of months back.

Interestingly, my passion vines (P. edulis) don't have any caterpillars on them. However, my potato vines have so many on them, that most of the leaves are gone. To save the other vines growing nearby, I had to spray with some organic caterpillar/bug killer (got it from Home Depot). I hate caterpillars, and by extension, butterflies too. They almost defoliated my plum trees.

There were like 5-6 on the young passion fruit vine. I just took them off using a twig and stomped on them with my shoes so they don't move back on the passion fruit or any other fruit tree. I wouldn't risk touching them with my bare hands if I were you. They look like they have stingers on them. Or you could use the organic caterpillar killer like mentioned above.

They are Gulf Fritillary caterpillars...they turn into quite a beautiful butterfly.
