dragonfruit planted cuttings folding over

I have 4 dragon fruit cuttings, planted in pots for about a month. Just above the soil level they're either turning yellow(and soft) and/or folding over. The part above this yellow section is still green and alive looking.

I dug up some of them and the sections under the soil were still green and had roots. I've cut out the bad sections and tried replanted raising up the underground parts so an inch or so would be sticking out. The upper sections that were still green, I'm letting them callous for a few days and I'll try to plant them again.

I'd like to know why only the section, just above the soil line, turned yellow and soft,...while the underground sections were mostly still ok. Is this too much watering, too little, or some disease?

John
