While I have never pruned my actively growing cacao trees, I can tell you that they respond quite well to pruning. How do I know? My dogs, while chasing a squirrel, broke down one of my cacao seedlings.....like in half. It sprouted beautifully thereafter and now doesn't show any signs of the dog damage. Prune away!

I'll show your response to my dogs but I doubt it will encourage them - one is way too old & lazy and the other one is afraid of the outdoors and doesn't weigh enough.

I think I'll wait til the weather gets cooler and then whack it when I drag it to the basement.

Have any of you gotten pods from a single tree?

I have one literally covered with flowers, and I've hand pollinated them till I'm blue in the face, still no pods. I read that they are 90% self incompatible. I would like to get another one for cross pollination but nobody has one :-(

Gnappi, Where do you live? If you are in fl, Pine island nursery sells them and I would assume excalibur as well.

I have gotten pods from a single tree. My solitary tree bloomed for the third year in a row and then began setting fruit.

Unfortunately, then the cold snap hit and all pods were lost prior to maturity and the tree was severely damaged and pruned back, never to bloom again...at least not so far.

Do you mean the HD in Oakwood square? or 441? I work near there and go weekly to the oakwood store for work reasons or personal but could swing by 441 if needed one in a while.
