Beware, Bryan, A. Reticulata is the wintering shelter of choice for the chalcid fly. They bore little holes in the fruit, the fruit never matures and then mummifies. The young pop out in spring time to infect other fruits. In my experience, bagging is necessary to avoid this problem. Most of the custard apples that I have had were not worth growing flavor-wise. I did have one at Excalibur years ago that I thought was excellent, but I still can't get over having to bag the fruit thing. Good luck with them.

I have an Annona reticulata and love the fruit. It is much milder than the sugar apple but is very juicy and sweet. I also have two sugar apple trees and they are growing in very nicely. It is very important with these fruit that they are allowed to ripen as long as possible on the tree. I just purchased a Lisa Atemoya, and from my research and experience, the Atemoya is the king of the annonas. I am interested in perhaps adding a Rolinia to my collection. We will have to see,,, running out of room. Ha!
