Your planting job looks fine. The main thing is to try to avoid soil or mulch covering the trunk over the root crown. This is what I was always taught. Although my Trinidadian neighbors stack composted horse manure several inches above the root crown and seem to not have any problem. The other thing that people very often get wrong is not fully watering in the rootball. They plant it but allow a pocket of air to exist under ground. Once the soil is well watered in around the root ball, the watering of the plant deeply becomes the main issue. The surface material will very often not allow the water to reach the rootball. I reccommend allowing a hose to do some drip irrigation directly over the rootball at least a couple of times a week for the first month. Also, don't be tempted to fertilize immediately. Wait until the plant is established for at least 60-90 days before considering a time released light fertilization.

As far as I can see, it looks fine. I don't see the root crown though. That is the point where the roots end and the trunk begins. I certainly don't think it is 2 inches above the soil. Nor would you want it to be. It should be right at soil level. No higher and no lower. Although if you had to have one, I'd prefer higher than the soil to lower than the soil level.

I agree with everything Harry said but want to emphasize, for me, I would like to be able to see the crown. While what Harry said about being sure there are no air pockets under the root ball and that it is well watered in for the first 30 days, Avocados do not like wet feet. Just make sure it is planted in an area with good drainage. Not sure where you are located but since you planted a Haas, I will assume it is California. That would also make me want to assume you do not have some of the issues of us Floridians do where certain parts of the yard do not drain well and actually hold moisture. This can be detrimental to an avocado.
