it looks just like my DC. I am getting that kind of growth here in Oklahoma. I planted a 2' Pstem pup from the mother in the ground in august and when I dug it up for storage it was almost a 5' Pstem. Lots of water and food makes mine grow fast.

Thanks for your input Mike! I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, a day or two after posting about the incredible growth of my dwarf Cavendish, I walked out to see it looking like this! It literally happened overnight. I don't know if it was because I cut out one of the pups the day before. I also think that I was over watering it. But I don't think either of those would have caused such an extreme and quick reaction. What I think happened is that I may have accidentally watered it with salt water intended for my 11 year old's science fair project. He is testing the affect that different strengths of salt water have on Periwinkle plants. Although we have the salt water bottles clearly marked, I think I may have picked up one of them by mistake. Fortunately, a new fresh, green leaf seems to be emerging from the top so maybe there's still hope for this banana plant! I'm guessing that once there are a couple of healthy new leaves on it, it will be o.k. to cut the dead leaves off. Until then, I'm continuing to water it with fresh unsalted water to try to flush out any salt water that it may have absorbed.

Possibly better to just repot in fresh soil. You could check the roots and get rid of damaged parts. It'd give you more time to thoroughly wash out the salt so soil could be later reused but without any lingering effects on the plant.
