Pitomba at HD!

I've been looking for a small stature tree for a spot in front of my house and today I was really surprised to find a lone 4' Pitomba at HD in Hollywood (Fla).
I've read that they fruit in as little as three and a half feet in height, are slow growing, and like water and fertilizer.
For those of you who have Pitomba, I hope you can help.
What about light? I plan on an area that will get many hours of sunlight after it grows over the north side of my house but till then it can expect ~ 8 - 10 hours per day in the summer. Winter time it will see a lot of shade.
Should I re-pot it and keep it in a pot on the south side of the house till it grows up a few feet, or plant it in a shadier spot? Will this sacrifice fruiting?
TIA,
Gary
