Sounds more like a Tommy Atkins mango than a Manila or Carabao mango. Manila mangos get yellow when ripe; no red spots and almost no fiber.

A method that seems to be popular here, might not work with all types, is the bag method. Where you tie a paper bag around the branch above the mango, when its near ripe, and let the fruit fall from the tree into the bag. Since it is only a short drop the fruit doesn't bruise.

I waited until it gets soft and a bit yellow. My first Manila in Sept. was horrible , too early I guess, but the last 8 have been great, sweet, juice and fiberless.

Johnmerr is right, and jf is showing you - the manila is not a red fruit. It is either greenish, yellow or greenish yellow.

The Manila/Carabao mango is my favorite; I have 4 trees on my lemons farm and I wait to pick them until they are almost completely yellow in color. jf's fotos definitely look to be the right variey, maybe harvested a little early, or maybe the "Mexican" variety brought by the Spanish many years ago from Phillipines, and maybe somewhat hybridized over the years.
