Those look so cool. What do they taste like?

If they are anything like mine....they don't taste like much. They are more texture than taste. Some have a very, very, very (yes, three very(s)) tiny hint of sweetness. Proponents, in my experience, usually say " its tastes refreshing. This is code for wet and tastless. Sorry to say. Beautiful tree, nice looking fruit, but as a flavor or a taste, not so much. If you add hot peppers and salt it is a nice contrast to cool your tongue. But...maybe in California, their's are better.

Yeah...the Thai's make up a mixture of sugar, salt, and chilies for dipping. I never understood why they would pick the fruit before it was ripe just for this. Nope, it was ripe...just bland. They are refreshing though!!! LOL!

I don't like the trace of bitterness on the skin, but the rest of the fruit tastes good, far from sweet, but not bad at all. Dip in a little chili/salt and it got a lot better. I think there are many "green" varieties, I tried a couple of green wax jambus at a nursery, picked them off the tree, and there were SWEET and CRUNCHY. Apparently my aunt didn't get that type. 8-))

Dip them in honey? When I tried wax jambu they were ok, had a low sugar slightly acidic mellow taste. I could imagine chopped up jambu in honey being pretty good.
