anona translation

My father-in-law brought me back some type of Annona seeds from San Diego which he explained are from a fruit he refers to as "anona". They look very similar to A. cherimola seeds although perhaps a bit darker. He is originally from Nicaragua, so the fruit name is a bit lost in translation.

They are not from a A. muricata b/c he would call that a guanabana. Anyone have any ideas? Is there a fruit people call anona down in San Diego? He said he'll bring me a fruit next time he goes down there, so hopefully that will solve the mystery.
