i wonder if it's the same as mit to nu in vietnam, the flesh is yellow though.

Doesn't resemble marang at all.

I have some seedlings, just have to wait a few years.:)

The seeds came from Puerto Rico, I believe Sherry @ Viveroanones has them on occasion. I might have an extra plant come spring if you haven't found any.

Ethan, did you prefer Marang over jackfruit when you tried it in PR.

I generally prefer a good jakfruit's flavor over the marang that we had in Puerto Rico. But, the deal breaker for me was the texture of marang. It was soft...mushy, not appealing to me. The flavor was interesting though.

I liked the Marang and sought it out on our last trip. The flesh was soft which I didn't mind and the flavor was excellent. Comparing it to jak fruit, I'd say jak wins out, especially if you are talking about eating large amounts of fruit or eating it often. Another plus for jak it they are easier to grow in moderate climates. Some pluses for the Marang, the fruits were small, I could have eaten a whole one by myself, they are easier to open and had minimal latex. One negative, it lives up to it's name Artocarpus odoratissimus, it's odor reminds me of oxidized diesel fuel when it is ripe.....and when you burp later on.

We stunk up the hotel with durians and marangs. :)

i prefer marang over jakfruit- i ate two marangs in one afternoon- i didnt find the smell objectionable at all. very easy to open and eat. for me marang wins hands down.
