Thanks! I just cut it open and the flesh smelled like barf, was PALE yellow, fiberless, and looked sort of rotten-ish. The only thing I got out of it was the seed which was very easy to get as the pit was all soft and peel-able. Hopefully I just cut it at the wrong time :-(

I would say that Palmer is a good guess, without seeing the inside. Its a common older commercial cultivar that is very productive, tends to be later season and colors up very early in growing. It is often harvested too early because of its early coloration. The puke smell is not something I have encountered or that I can explain. I would consider the possibility that some form of chemical fertilizer was used on the trees that may have imparted that odor.

Thanks harry. The fruit was not overly soft, but did have a small squeeze to it.

I like palmers, but they are being phased out in the DR because they suffer from jelly seed if it rains too much.

I noticed they do not ripe evenly across the fruit. but a perfectly ripe Palmer is very good.

the fruit in the picture does look like a palmer, but I am guessing it was picked too soon, and didn't ripe right, and just got fermented, giving you that "puke" smell.

I purchased one similar from Wall mart when i was state side a week or so ago, hoping i would have at least a half decent mango, I tossed it in the trash, after 2 bites.

Where were these mangoes grown ? Not only are they picked earlier than should be, but depending on the origin they may have gone through a "treatment" to be able to pass inspection to get into the states.
