Jean Ellen?

OK Mango Wizards, what's the scoop on the Jean Ellen? I see that some folks aren't all that stoked on the flavor. What's wrong with it? Does it taste like the Madame Francis or something?

Hard to recall the details at this date. I just remember the flavor as being lacking...underwhelming for sure. I also recall that as the season went on, there was some minor improvement in the later harvested fruits. Overall, a very early but not very impressive mango. Plus....it is rather small fruited. I posted about it when I actually finally ate it....now if I can only find the post. I know I have several posts about the pruning of this tree......under To Prune or Not to Prune. But I am sure I posted separately about the first tasting of the fruit. Just can't locate that post. If anyone stumbles across it, please post it. Thanks.

I noticed that it was conspicuously absent from Fairchild's curator's choice trees for sale at the festival this year.

Ahhh, yes, that brings back memories....thanks Jeff. Not very clever of me not to look in the First Mango post of last year. I wasn't thinking. I am going to keep the tree for the sake of having a "complete" collection. I am hoping for some year to year variability.....a change for the better would be nice, but I am not holding my breath.

So, my take is that for those looking for an early season mango, the Rosigold wins over Jean Ellen? I had been contemplating topworking 1/2 of my rosigold with Jean Ellen, but it sounds like that may not be such a smart idea :-).

BTW....at least at my house Rosigold seems highly susceptable to anthracnose. This morning I went out to find virtually every little fruitlet on Rosigold blackened with fungus.. I have had no time to spray.

I am very disappointed that you think other things such as family and work to be more important than spraying your mangos. You do not deserve to be in this forum.
