Where can I camp in Texas?

Okay, heres the deal: My family is looking for a place in texas, (State Park, something like that) that we can camp at. The catch is, we want to be at somewhere like Corpus Christi, but all our search results come up with corpus christi 'lake' .. We want to be at the ocean where we can rent cheap surfboards, camp, etc, but we live in Kansas, so we have no clue were to go for all this. WE NEED CAMPING, NOT HOTELS! Thanks, PLZ HELP US!!

Have you checked out Mustang Island?? It has a park.

Carrie, that's a excellent suggestion! Mustang Island is "pure" Texas coast! We used to have a vacation house near there.

I have relatives who live there, and spent a lot of my childhood visiting them. Haven't been there in a few years though.

Mustang Island is really nice. We liked Rockport State Park too, but it is a 15 minute drive to the beach. Depends on whether you'll need shade or not. Mustang is full blazing sun which can be good this time of year. :-)

Padre Island, just drive over the bridge from Corpus, there are campgrounds and you can camp on the beach.
