Immmmm baaaaaack. Now not so sure if I should move it up more, it's going to look terrible out that far. What is the right distance away for a climber? Paid for it out of the grocery money(shhhh)hate to not like where it is for years to come.

No mulch or anything yet, nothing comes out that white pipe unless our hotwater heater bursts and black cord in background is temporary for another mess I have going at same time.

I think it's OK. As long as you have room to put your trellis, or what ever it's going to climb on, behind it.

If it grows taller than the house, you'll have to keep chopping it off to prevent it from scraping the paint off the soffit.

I'd put it outside the edge of the roof, where it has a little room to arch, where the "front" & "back" of the rose will have foliage, & where you can get behind it to groom the rose or paint the house or string Christmas lights.

Your way seems easier Jim but I had better move it. Don't want to get the DH griping about plants swarming the paint and house. He is still bent because I jumped from behind the bushes spraying citrus spray on ants in front of him and the UPS guy. Would of been ok if I wasn't saying "say 'el lo to my leetle friend" and laughing like a wild woman. Later he walked by and I was on all fours with nose in the dirt trying to find a leaf or sprout or any sign of life behind a plastic butterfly marker I found. He just mumbled something about "hope your looking for a contact and not actually smelling that dirt"
