Part of Camp Mabry is moving to Bastrop County.

During World War II, Camp Swift housed POW's and was considered a state-of-the-art facility.

Now it will help train the next generation of National Guards.

Military and city leaders gathered Saturday for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The new location will serve as landing sites for helicopters, navigation training and commission new officers.

"We train a 9 state region around Texas all army combat military occupational specialities, infantry, artillery, cavalry and military police. In addition we have the military candidate school where we commission 2nd lieutenants in the United States Army and the National Guard," said Commander Patric Hamilton.

This new phase at Camp Mabry is expected to bring $5 million dollars to the Bastrop and Elgin areas.
