I need to re-condition a flowerbed. I dug up 23 feet x 3 feet of cannas and weeds taller then I am. How long can the cannas stay either on the ground or in water? I want to put some of them in pots to give away and plant some of them somewhere else but right now I'm too tired to do it?

You can leave them laying on asphault for days, I don't think they would die. Wilt a little, not die.

Really, they will do fine until you can get them back in the ground. You could set them all together and pour a bag of potting soil on them, if you need more time.

They are very tough plants.

Thank you Janie. They must be tough they have been on the ground for several hours now and haven't wilted yet.
