There are some gardeners here from around San Antonio and Austin. There is a plant swap planned for October so stay tuned for more info. There is another swap in Buda and I'm sure they'll post the next date.

I saw your other post and can really relate. DH and I spent months clearing out a neglected yard this past year and had just begun planting when it got too hot. Someone recently wrote that gardening in Texas requires a lot of patience and it certainly does.

My daughter spent a couple of years at SWTexState at San Marcos. I love that country. Madrone nursery at San Marcos might have some interesting native plants (and others) to whet your appetite. they're worth a call when in that area. They used to be "by appointment only" so you might call first.

You might contact a local garden club. This link might help. I found it at www.texasgardenclubs.org

Garden Clubs often do plant exchanges and will give free advice. You don't have to be a member to attend one or two of their meetings, but if you start going on a regular basis, you'll probably want to join. Most garden clubs don't charge more than $20 a year - a very reasonable price for all the information and plants you get.

They are called the Spade and Trowel Garden Club.

My best friend lives in Yorktown. Her angel trumpets died back but are blooming now. There is a great nursery in Yorktown & the staff there is very helpful.
She is growing fruit trees including some citrus. We put in ginger but it didn't make it through the winter, neither did a yellow oleander (thevetia peruviana).
She also had some plumbago growing last time I was up there.

There are several great nurseries in Victoria. I am close to Edna, so Victoria is about half way between us. Check out Earthworks, Four Seasons, and Renkens in Victoria.

They also have a nice Master Gardener group in Victoria that might interest you. Many of their members are from Gonzales.
