Yesterday we finally stopped in to Homestead Heritage after several year encouragement from family. It is located just outside Waco in Elm Mott. It was really cool. I am in to pottery and throwing on the wheel - so I was in my element in the pottery shop, but the other stuff was really cool too! I got some pretty pictures of their gardens and buildings. Their biggest event day is the weekend after Thanksgiving (craft fair) - and we will definatly be going back this year for that event, but they are open M-Sat 10a to 6pm.

That is a really neat place. Is it just people selling crafts around Thanksgiving or is it more of a festival atmosphere? Do they have a website?

It is a festival, craft fair and demonstrations on the Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of stuff geared towards to kids...but things for everyone!

Homestead Heritage is a wonderful place to visit. The people are friendly, the crafts are well-done and original in design, and you can get some really good stone-ground flours and corn meal (for those of you who bake!). Also, their gardens are a great place to get ideas. The restaurant offers good food, and a selection of cheeses and breads to take home. You don't have to buy anything, though. If you just want to wander and look, visit and absorb the peaceful surroundings, you are most welcomed. I suggest that your first visit not be during one of the special weekends. You get a much better feel of the place without the crowds. Then return for the Harvest or Spring special weekends.
