O.J. arrested and in Jail in Vegas!

Well, he finally screwed up and got caught. With the charges brought against him for armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, etc., he could get up to 60 years in jail. They're holding him without bail for now. He is 60 years old and could spend the rest of his life in jail - which is where he should have been many years ago.

What a moron. Morals and all that aside...
DON'T MESS WITH VEGAS CASINOS AND HOTELS!!! Duh! Those folks aren't fooling around. I lived near Vegas for most of my life(about 3hrs) My parents went there a couple times a year while I was growing up. My brother, who normally acted like a maniac 24/7, kept a low profile in Vegas. The security folks had great people skills and were always nice to the kids hanging around. However, even to a kid they commanded respect and came across as pros. LOL! OJ finally messed with the wrong group! Yippeee!!!! PJ

It is going to be hard to find a complete jury that is not tainted.

hee-hee-hee! Yeah, he may have gotten away with a double murder, but they really got him this time. They got it all on tape, although we probably don't want to hear it because every other word is extremely foul language.

I heard on the radio that the 'belongings' that he went to 'repossess' were lost when he failed to pay storage...they were auctioned off. It's not like someone stole them from him and he was just trying to get his stuff back. I hope he finally has to pay for his actions.

I was working at home when his first trial was on TV and watched a lot of it.

Perhaps there is some compelling forensic evidence in this case.

They say it will be hard to find a jury untainted..but THIS time it will be tainted the right way...guilty, hopefully

Did anyone notice how much his girlfriend looks like the wife he murdered? I almost threw up when they were showing him on tv last night on his way back to Florida. People flocking around him wanting autographs. I would rather shake hands with the devil.....

I've been sitting back and reading this thread without comment.

I'm not trying to cause any problems nor to rile any tempers, but I wouldn't want y'all to be on my jury. I have been involved with every area of law since 1973, so I have some background on legal issues. During voir dire opposing counsel ask whether a potential juror can be fair or not, i.e. do you have preconceived ideas regarding guilt and/or innocence. Many people believe that an arrest equates to guilt. That just isn't the case. I sat on one of the Harris County Grand Juries two days a week for three months. A Grand Jury determines true-bill vs. no-bill indictments. We would hear anywhere from 200 to 400 cases per day. Most of the time a true-bill was obvious, but then we would hear cases that there was just no way we could vote on a true-bill.

I don't profess to know anything about California law, and I'm not an O.J. fan, but I did watch the jury trial, and whether or not he was or was not guilty of murder, the fact remains that the prosecutor's office failed to prove up the case. And remember we live in the good ole U.S.A. where we are assumed innocent until proven guilty.

Patsy, you are a braver person than I am. I'm afraid that I'd been petrified to shake hands with the devil. I'd rather meet O.J. in a dark alley than the devil.

HA! Sorry I just had to put in my two cents worth. Now please don't get mad at me. If you do, I'll just have to slink off to my corner and be quiet.

Yes, you are right that a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I'm sure he was read his Miranda rights. But, with the recordings, witnesses, etc., they have against him, it would be hard to think that he is not guilty in this case. All the media he is getting will also make it difficult to find jurors who don't already have an opinion of him, whether from current issues or from his past trial. They will need to look for someone who doesn't watch the news on TV, listen to the news on the radio or read it online. There are many more ways to access news than there was 10-15 years ago thanks to the internet, so I would think more people will have already been exposed to media about this case than those who were exposed to the previous case.

I do know about California law. My mother was a legal secretary for none other than Mr Cochran. This was back in the 70's when I was a kid. My mom still had her Oklahoma accent then. She welcomed OJ into the office in a professional manner. (My mother would never fawn over anyone. No matter who in heck they were. Southern folks are a proud lot.) Anyhoo, I guess OJ didn't like Southerners. He looked at her and said,"Shut up Cracker B*****". I heard this story growing up and wasn't too surprised he murdered a woman. He has NO respect for women.
In california criminals have all the rights. That's just the way it is. A regular person barely has the right to defend themselves. OJ has money to boot."Money talks...." Y'all know the rest. Even if they had pictures of it happening he would've walked away.
There were traces of Nicole's and Goldman's blood in the Bronco OJ drove. There was Nicole's blood on OJ's socks in his house.OJ's hair was on Goldman's shirt even tho they'd been strangers. There was a bloody glove with OJ's blood,Nichole's blood and Goldman's blood at OJ's house.Nichole's missing house keys were in OJ's house.
How much evidence does one need?
    Why did OJ run?
OJ ran because he was guilty. He was not charged in the murder because no one wanted another riot in LA. If he'd been found guilty South Central LA would've been burned down AGAIN. Pathetic. Alas, that's the way things are like it or not. At least the Goldman's are getting some of his money(eventually anyway). At least he was convicted in a civil trial. Still he's running around commiting crimes as he sees fit. OJ will get away with this crime too. OJ aint going to prison. PJ

    I've had similar thoughts.

    Hey Y'All!

I was afraid that if I said anything, that this might happen. Remember, I did not say I liked O.J. In fact, I think he is an A*S! BUT, what I said was "the prosecutors did not prove up his last case." I was not at all impressed with Marsha whatever her last name is! And yes, I too thought that he was more than likely guilty of the murders, but again it was not "proved beyond a reasonable doubt". That is the key to all criminal law cases!

The reason lots of prosecutors seek an indictment for a lower charge on cases rather than capital murder is because it is easier to prove up a lesser charge. Capital murder is a very difficult charge to prove up in court. Again, I'm talking about Texas, because that is where all of my legal experience comes from with the exception of working two months in Florida. However, like is mentioned above, there is more evidence this time, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

P.J. I have been a legal secretary and paralegal since 1973. I majored in pre-law in college, but decided that one lawyer in the family was enough. In the past I've worked in all fields of law for different attorneys, and IF a client ever spoke to me like that my boss(es) would throw him out of the office regardless of who he or she was. This past year, a client came into my DH's office and made lewd comments about our beautiful secretary. My DH immediately threw him out of the office and told him never to come back. I can't believe that your mother was subjected to that kind of treatment. That's just terrible!

And if any of you have been keeping up with the high school girl that was found murdered in Sugar Land, well one of the two young men was sentenced to 50 years yesterday. That certainly seems like a fair sentence to me.

And I'm not so sure he will be walking away this time. Remember this is a lesser charge, and it should be easier to get a conviction.

Itcollins I certainly didn't think you liked him! Gardeners have better taste :). I hope you're right about the lesser conviction. Still, riots are a real possibility if OJ goes to prison for any reason.
I think the people that handled the evidence, the ineptness of the prosecution etc... were all part of a bigger plan.
Sadly, I understand why it happened the way it did. Nothing will bring Nichole or Ron back. A conviction could've led to another riot. Riots would kill more people, cost millions in tax dollars and put cops, firefighters and other people that go in to fix things in danger. LA will(it seems like the state and the city with those initials!) will always be a powder keg of racial tensions. I cannot think of a single way to even start fixing that problem.
Your DH was right to do what he did. I admire him for kicking that man out of his office! Your secretary is a human being.
I don't blame lawyers for the way things are. Some things wont change and that's that.
I'm glad someone got what they deserved for murdering someone! Fifty years is a long time. Texas seems a bit less lenient on criminals here in TX. You also have at least some ability to defend yourself! PJ

Yes, those initials (LA) do have more in common than you think. With the media attention on Jena, LA right now, the racial problems are just as bad there, if not worse. There are just more people cramed into Los Angeles so more likely for riots to arise. At least the public demonstrations for the students who beat up that teen in Jena are a little more organized and no extra violence have come out of them. If you have ever been to Louisiana and driven down the old Highway 1, you won't believe the conditions where some people live down there. That in itself is a crime.

PJ - I think it is awful the way O.J. addressed your mom. She did not deserve to be talked to like that - nobody deserves to hear that kind of language and insults. I really do hope he spends the rest of his life in jail for his current crime.

My only thought on the matter when I heard about it...well, one of my only thoughts, (aside from trying not to laugh hysterically!) was, oh, no, another excuse for a feeding frenzy by the media. Now that's all we're going to hear about for the next few years.
