Not a lot. That is a top runner grass, and placing soil over it, may be a problem. However, if it is a spotty application, due to sodding, you can fill in the spots, and the grass will eventually grow back over the spots from the sod high spots. That has always been a problem with sodding St. Augustine grass, as the tendency, is to sod in a checkerboard pattern.

i put about 4-6 inches, do you suggest i remove some of the dirt and make sure some grass shows thru?

4-6 inches is a lot of over filling. Perhaps in the spring, you might get away with that. At this time of year, you might not.

I'd probably scrape away enough of the soil to allow just the leaf tips of the gras to stick out. The runners will work their way to the top and as they do, add more soil until your area is level. But completely covering the grass from light will usually kill it. Now if you had f*^%bermuda grass you could cover it with three feet of soil and it would just grow up through it. I've seen bermuda grow up behind the house siding and emerge out through a light switch plate inside the house. Cheryl
