Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Posted by sylviatexas z8a Tx (My Page) on

Here's "page 2" for our haves & wants.

I'll be working in my own garden (unless it snows...) this week-end, potting up some
historic yellow iris,
small yellow daffs,
larger, lighter yellow daffs,
maybe some other stuff, depends on what's sprouted.

Also, please, if anyone has
peppers, expecially
jalapenos, &
slicing-sized tomato plants,
please let me know what I can bring you in exchange;

if it isn't on my list, ask.

Thanks so much!

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

For the benefit of any newcomers I will be hanging out the signs on the corner of university and the street that goes to the zoo, I think it's Constitution, and then also on the corner by the parking lot next to our pavilion.

Also, it's a bit of a trek (about 50 yards I think) from the parking lot to the pavilion, so you may want to bring a cart or wagon if you have one to drag your plants and goodies. If you don't have one or can't carry it in your car, don't worry, there will be lots of others who will.

Also, bring anything that you might need for your personal comfort, handi wipes and/or hand sanitizer come to mind. There's a porta-pottie nearby, but don't count on it having enough TP to go around. I keep some in my car all the time, a little buttwipeh is good for thousand different uses.

Also, bring your garden gloves, pruners, hat, skeeter-beater, shades, and printed information about the plants you bring in case someone needs them. If you think you might like to take home some rose cuttings, it would be a good idea to bring along tags to write on and a big bucket to put them in. I don't know what Barkingdogwoods (Lin) has planned for this swap, but when she brings rose cuttings, she brings Lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ong rose cuttings, and they need lots of room.

Don't feel like you have to participate in the pre-swaps like a lot of folks do here. Even if you don't have a lot of plants, you can always bake something or make something. We love food and garden-related crafts. One year I got a cedar post from someone in exchange for a couple bags full of iris bulbs-and I think both of us felt like we got the better end of the deal. Black plastic garden pots are good for a swap. Sylvia loves coffee, I love licorice jelly beans, and someone else, I can't remember who, really swoons for anything chocolate. Oh yeah, I think that was me too. Anyway you get the idea. Cheryl

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

naw naw naw, cheryl, that's *moi* that loves chocolate!

I was thinking the street is Colonial?

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi James/Element! I'll put aside a nice batch of elderberry for you. Would you happen to have a peach or white brug cutting in exchange?

Thanks!
Lin/barkingdogwoods

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Sylvia, I should have some heirloom mater plants I can bring you, slicing size. Blacks, reds, pinks.

 o
Susan's Haves

Haves:
Zebrina Hollyhock
Bog sage
Basil plants (started from seed)
Mediterranean violet (hopefully!)

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan, which blacks do you have? I would like one please. see if there's anything else you might like or are you looking for anything special?

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Susan (sfmathews)-

I would love a start of your bog sage - what on my list would be something you'd consider trading for it?

Thanks!
Lin (barkingdogwoods)

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Thanks, Susan!

Please let me know what I can bring you!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Rogers Best Black, which did great for me last year. Similar to Black Krim, I am told.
Indian Stripe, similar to Cherokee Purple, fruits are a bit smaller and more productive. Think I also have Spudakee, a potato leaf version of Cherokee Purple. First time trying this year.
Brandy Boy, a pink hybrid cross by Burpee. First time with it this year.
Pearson, red, suppossed to do well here in Texas. First time.
Donskoi, a red heart. First time.
Super Beefsteak, Big Beef, both red hybrids.
A few others, I can't recall at the moment (I'm at work!)

 o
RE: Want

Sylvia, I just looked at your trade page. Could you start a cutting of Tradescant Rose for me please, if you still have it?
Thanks,
Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

sure will!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Randeeki.......so sorry but the pecan tree has dissapeared I don't know if the cold got it or what. I will look for another but if no tree would you like something else?

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan, the Tradescant cuttings that I took last autumn haven't rooted;
I don't know if I did something wrong, or if the weird weather messed them up, or if Tradescant just doesn't like for its stems to be stuck in a pot of soil!

so...

If you'd like, & if you have, oh, I don't know, 6 or 8 zillion tomatoes, I'll be happy to bring you a mature Tradescant in a pot.

Of course, if you want to try the cuttings, I'll be happy to bring you cuttings instead or in addition.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Sylvia, I was in the mulch pile and found this tree limb about 4 ft/ tall and it was still green and had roots developing with a yelluw bloom, now.this was the mulch that came in 2 or 3 yrs. ago. what do you think?

Brenda, still no tad poles, but I have seen frogs maybe thier picking out mates.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Brenda, if I have tadpoles I'll bring you some. Cheryl

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi folks -

I have posted a couple of requests and trades but have not heard back from the folks. I don't consider a trade "firm" unless there is agreement from both parties on what is to be exchanged, and there are items I won't be digging up or hauling unless I have a firm trade.

Please try to confirm the trade, or say "no thanks" and make things easier on those of us who don't want to haul a bunch of plants over and back home because the trade isn't what we expected.

Thanks! (mostly from my aching back :)

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Phyllis.

Don't gloat.

Gloating is so unbecoming.

to everyone else:

I'm always asking Phyllis
"where'd you get *that* wonderful thing?",
& she's always saying,
"it must have come in with the mulch."

She has a *beautiful* stand of crocosmia.

"Where'd you get that, Phyllis?"

"It must have come in with the mulch."

The only thing I get with my mulch is a tired back!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Geez, Sylvia, not too demanding r ya? ;P
I don't have nearly that many mater plants. I could probably bring you like 10 or so. As long as you aren't too picky about what you get! :D
Don't worry about the cutting. I have never been successful with cuttings, so it wouldn't work out for me either.

"If you'd like, & if you have, oh, I don't know, 6 or 8 zillion tomatoes, I'll be happy to bring you a mature Tradescant in a pot."

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Yay!

Nah, it doesn't matter what kind or really what number;
I'm getting them for a friend who can't get out & about.

I took him some cherry tomatoes last year, & he called the other day to ask if I'd bring him some bigger ones this spring.

I've put your name on the Tradescant.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Lin/barkingdogwoods I was working in the yard and was going through my brug cuttings, for some reason, I lost most of the cuttings over the last few weeks since I last checked them. I only have 3 left and they might not make it. I would prefer not to give you any until I am 100% that are going to make and are 100% disease free. If and when the originals come up and are big enough to take cuttings I can bring you some.

 o
RE: Ft Worth SpringSwap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Sorry bloomingirl, been busy and missed most of the trades and contacts made to me. As I was telling Lin, I think I lost all but a few of my brugs. So I do not want to make any trades and I know these wont be ready by the swap. I should have more next fall up for trade.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Phyllis and Cheryl (and any other pond folks) - Hope y'all have some poles by the plant swap. I just love watching them develop. Thanks.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Note to everyone:

Remember:

Even if you don't have a single plant to trade, you can always bring tools, gloves, pots, or edibles!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Brenda, I don't have a tadpole yet. hopefully they will show up before the swap if not we can meet up somewhere when the little devils emerge.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Oh, Sylvia, thanks! I have wanted this rose for soooo long!

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Sylvia, in case you didn't get my email, by having to be in Ft. Worth on Monday after the swap means I can not make the swap on Saturday.
I would love to get a start of the spanish bluebells come fall if at all possible.
I will be at a couple of plant sales this weekend in the hill country (including Wildseed Farms), so will see what goodies I can get started over the Summer for the Fall swap.
Sorry I can't make it as this swap looks like it is going to be a great one.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Right now, I plan to be at the swap. Being in a new place and unmotivated to even start seeds this winter due to not having any (decent) planting beds yet, I have pretty much nothing to bring. But I love seeing and visiting with everyone.

I'll bring my wagon for others to use, and I can help people unload and set up or maybe help Sylvia with the door prize stuff?

Where ever I'm needed I'll be there.
:)

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Lin, I can bring you some bog sage. Warning...It multiplies pretty quickly. And I don't have it in a bog. But it has beautiful true blue flowers.

Susan

 o

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

K, got everyone's stuff dug and potted up. Now I'm really worn out! I'll bring extras of a few perennials, in case anyone wants one.
Susan

A few more haves...

Little Fingers Eggplant (3 plants)
Jimmy Nardello Pepper(1)
Pequillo Pepper (1)
Tansy

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan I would love to try a bit of that bog sage but I'm not sure what I have that you might be interested in. I'm bringing:

Elephant garlic cloves
Pink Flowered Jade plant
Tall white yarrow
Red Monarda
Orange daylilies
Blue mist flower
Hand Painted pots
Wind chimes (maybe)

Cheryl

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan, No hot peppers for me I have some but thank you anyway. I'll take a eggplant if you have extra.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

K, Bog Sage for Cheryl. I'll take some of your elephant garlic, please.
Phyllis, Eggplant

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan, thanks so much! Can I bring you something besides the rooted fig cutting? Maybe some basil, parsley, or dill that I started from seed? Or would you want two fig cuttings (one which is a bit smallish)?

I'm glad you said that you're bringing extra perennials. We'll probably have some extras too - some chocolate mint maybe, some salvias, perhaps some aster, maybe some ground covers - so we can do some horse-trading at the swap.

And as an idea to folks that don't have plants to trade - a trip to the dollar store would turn up lots of gardening stuff for swapping - e.g. plant hooks, garden ornaments - and something from the dollar store is a good swap for a small pot... I may have to swing by to see what's there myself.

I love spring!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Wow, its almost time! Here is what I have, please let me know if I missed anything:

Lin: White iris, tiny pecan and raspberry for Kerria Japonica

Phylis: Brownies & Raspberry for shasta daisy, garlic chives, yellow canna, parsley & oregano

Sylvia: Brownies for yellow iris, yellow sedum & chocolate mint

Susan: Raspberry for heirloom tomato (black if possible?), phlox

I have not heard from Cheryl or Randeeki, would like elephant garlic and heirloom tomatoes if I have anything you want

I also have lemon balm and tons of tiny pecans i.e. 6" with 2 leaves if anyone is interested I will pot some up

Looking forward to it!!!
Nik

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Lin, I think one would be fine. Please give me the lowdown on what to do with it when I get it home. Fruit newbie here!
Dang, if my dogs didn't get into what I potted up on Thursday. I watered with weakend fish emulsion and they tore it up. (guess they liked the smell) I'll have to repot one or two, the rest seem to be coming around. Grrrrr...
Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan, since I have a house full of dogs I share your pain. They like to "graze" on the potted plants on the patio. What's worse, though, is that some little critters keep going in the greenhouse where the seeds are and nipping off the seedlings. I just put them all back under a cover to save them... Grrrr! As far as one fig being enough - maybe you can look over my "extras" on my table and pick up something else you might like. . . (this is Sylvia's new idea, and I like it for when I think I'm getting way more than I'm giving in a trade...)

Nik, you're giving me an AWFUL lot for that thug - there's got to be something else I'm bringing that you'll want. How about if you look over my table of stuff and find something that appeals to you.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Are chicks considered garden items? :-D I have 40 of the little buggers!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Aww, I love chicks. But the DH would absolutely send me packing if I brought one home! :(

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Oh, I think chicks are definitely garden items, they're pretty as flowers, and they will live in your garden and eat everything in it. I would like to have all of your heavy breed chicks (and of course pay the going rate for them since that's what you raised them for) that you need to move. I will bring a box for them. I can't take the cute little small breeds, since they really take a beating from the larger ones in the yard.
Haves:
Tall White Yarrow
Red Monarda
Pink Flowering Jade
Painted Terra Cotta Pots
Orange Day Lilies
Elephant Garlic cloves
Pecan Tree seedlings
Inland Sea Oats

Wants: I would be very interested in a pink-flowering Butterfly Bush if anyone has one. I am cutting-impaired so please don't offer me an unrooted cutting unless you want me to kill it for you.

Trades:
Phyllis-Jade/Blue sedum,if you still have any

Lin-Painted Pots/Surprise me

Barefootie(Brenda)-Elephant Garlic Cloves /Lunch

Grnbryflrgirl(Nik)-Elephant Garlic/Bog Sage

Sylvia-What could I trade you for some Spanish bluebells?

Sfmathews(Susan)-What could trade you for some Terra cotta yarrow?

Cheryl

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

You know, I might actually HAVE a pink butterfly bush. I don't remember if it was pink or light purple. I grabbed more than I needed when they were on sale last fall, with the idea that if I lost a few I would still have all I wanted. But lo and behold, they call came back, so I have an extra. Small, about a foot tall. Elephant garlic sounds great! I'm trying to keep more edibles in the garden. I assume they're edible, being called garlic and all!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

My goodness, time just flew by!

I'm sending yellow cannas with orange spots (2-4 foot tall) for PhyllisB and Sylvia. Sylvia is sending me a canna in return.

I still have many of the short yellow cannas and tall orange cannas if anyone is interested. My tomato and pepper seedlings are really still too tiny to share.

I need to coordinate with Mudauber (Billy) and Mrs. Billy to get these to the swap. I really don't want anything in return, just feel guilty about composting all of them if someone may want them and I need the space that they are in.

Pam

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Pam - I would take some of your short yellow cannas if you still have some available. I don't know that I have anything you want, maybe some striped-leafed cannas? They're large flowering though, maybe Tropicana, maybe Bengal Tiger/Pretoria.

Thanks!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Mommyfox, yes they are edible and you can have as many as you want, I have a box full of them.

Pam, I would like some of those tall cannas too, and Lin I would love to have a couple of those stripe-leafed cannas as well, if you have enough. Cheryl

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Cheryl, I don't have Bog sage...can I bring you a raspberry or Lemon balm or a pecan seedling or white iris or brownies for the Elephant garlic?

Lin, I'm bringing you a lot of things I don't want for something I do...I think that's fair! (But I wont turn down extra freebies ;-))

Pam, are the short yellow cannas pure yellow or do they have orange spots? If they are pure yellow, I would like some please...anything I have that you want?

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Barkingdogwoods, I have you down for some yellow cannas (I have lots!). I would like one striped canna..these things do multiply quickly :-)

Cheryl, I have you down for the tall orange cannas.

Granburyflowergirl, they do have the orange spots.

Pam

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Pam, Lin here -

I'll bring you one each of the striped cannas. I laugh as I see them - I was SURE that I dug them all up last year and moved them but here they come again. I think once you have cannas you always will :)

Lin (who needs to remember to sign her name :)

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

If anyone has not posted on the "Head Count" thread, please hop on over there and post so I know how many people to expect for lunch. Thanks

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Cheryl,I have the bog sage, and I 'think' I have you down for some.

Susan

 o
Cheryl

I just saw you were interested in some of the terracotta yarrow too, as well as the bog sage. K, I'll add that to your list.
I wouldn't mind a painted pot or two, that would be wonderful!
Susan

 o
list update (yes I'm anal!)

Updated list (again!):

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Well, it doesn't have to be *exactly* a bazillion LOL!

just talked to a friend who has no roses (I know, I nearly fainted from shock myself!).

She's doing warm colors like yellow & orange & gold, so if anyone has "warm color" roses, I'd be happy to bring you whatever you want in exchange!

Also, does anyone have hyacinth bean vine or morning glory vines?

again, anything you want!

 o

What, no roses? Isn't that a commandment?
"A Gardner shall grow and nuture roses"
I swear I've read that somewhere....

Susan

 o
Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Yes, you must have roses, it is a commandment.

"Thou shalt go forth & hoard up all the roses thou cansthoard."

remember reading that in Sunday School?

for you coral canna indica

NIK:
for me, brownies maybe? can't remember.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Just a reminder I have lost all of my brug cuttings this year. So Lin and bloomingirl I have nothing to trade.

For anyone that interested, I do have some trellis scrap that I am about to take out the dump. Some if it is big enough to use for a small plant If you want it all there is about a pickup load's worth. Most range in a 3ft by 4ft sections or smaller.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

I'm a little worried about someone who always shows up at the swap, but never has anything to trade, are you sure you're a gardener? You didn't have anything to trade last year either, not even a seed. Have you tried watering? I'm thinking we may need to come over to your house and do one of those makeover TV shows on your yard. Remember, the definition of the word 'swap' is an even trade, an exchange of goods that is satisfactory to both parties. C'mon, before you get the reputation, you need to ante up or fold.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Cheryl, I am just thankful for you taking these orange cannas..nothing in return please! I have crimson sunflowers ready to plant in that bed and the cannas have to go! You should have seen this yard last summer .... lots of cannas!

Pam

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

This season I had only planed on trading the brugs, between sprinkler system failure while on vacation and a greenhouse collapse in below freezing temps I lost most of trades and most of my favorite plants. If I get the time I plan on going through the rest of my pants and supplies. I have a lot of extra stuff that need to find a new home. But that wont be until next fall.

As I should of said in the previous post. Because I do not have anything to trade, I am canceling any trades I have made and will only come if I find something I know I can find a home for. I had thought by the earlier posts the trades were canceled but no one responded so I thought I would send out another message so one would waste their time getting things set to trade if I did not show up.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan...the spot in mom's garden that should have had cleomes has not shown any sign of them yet. They either froze out,, or it is just still too early up where we are. So I will not be able to bring them. Is there something else you would be interested in swapping for?

So sorry!!

Heather

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Pam, I might have some grape hyacinth bulbs, if they have finished blooming by Friday. I had quite a few that came up this year. I just hate to take the cannas without giving something in return. Cheryl

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Heather, do you have any sedum that blooms, like Autumn Joy? I like the blooms and so do the butterflies.

Cheryl, my japs didn't come up from seed so well this year. I've only got two for myself :(
But I have plenty of orange peter peppers, if you might be interested in those.

Susan

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Cheryl, surprise me then! Whatever you send will be cherished.

Pam

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Susan...I have a nice clump of Autumn Joy sedum for you

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

granburygardengirl - could I interest you in a trade - lunch for some lemon balm?

sfmatthews - could you maybe throw a peter pepper my way.

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

element,
torn-up trellis that you were planning on taking to the dump is not a "trade".
Maybe you should wait to see if you have something in the autumn.

Planopondnut,
I can bring you some rose cuttings & white yarrow.

If you have enough, I would like redbud seedlings, light orange iris, & crocosmia.

I think I have my pre-trades all potted up & I'm working on my "at the gate" stuff!

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Ok. Here is what I have down as pre-trades. Please let me know if I left anyone off!!

Sylvia: Folgers and mags for aucuba

Lin: Daylily and Danish Flag Poppy Seeds for Winter Honeysuckle and Confederate Rose

Susan: Autumn Joy Sedum and Butterfly Orchid seeds for Peter Piper and Lemon Drop Peppers

Phyllis: Brownies and Snickerdoodles for Hosta

Bren: Danish Flag Poppy Seeds

Looking Forward to Saturday!!!

Sylvia, I'd like the yarrow and rose cuttings. Could you also add a daffodil or an historic iris to the trade? I'll be glad to bring you a redbud, some crocosmia and orange iris.

Thanks for the late trade!

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Don't really have a whole lot of plants to trade this year, but I will be bringing the lemon thyme cookies again, and some other baked goods. I have a few small scent pillows, and a couple of sachets.

My front yard is in desperate need of color, and I would reallllly like some gerbera daisies. I could also use some more lavender (any variety) and purple coneflower. And anything else colorful/"showy."

Thanks!

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Sally (planopondnut) - how about some sweet flag for some elderberries?

Nik and Phyllis - I have some potentially bad news about the thug (that I've been calling Japanese rose for years) - it MAY be primrose jasmine, which is a bush jasmine, that was mislabeled. I'm hoping the leaves come out enough to verify, but it's still a lovely yellow-blooming arching stemmed shrub with nice yellow blooms in the spring and throughout the summer. LMK if you're not interested any more...

James (element), I thought you were waiting to see if the brugs survived - I'm sorry to hear that none survived. I was afraid I'd lose all of my brugs when my power was out for 2 days, but after the first day (of sleeping with the bedroom window open to the greenhouse to get some of the fireplace heat out there) I broke down and bought a kerosene heater - that little puppy is HOT!

Later folks!

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

OK, Phyllis, I asked for a trade for a bit of your blue sedum a couple of times, we're almost down to the wire. LMK if it's a trade, and I still want the smile too!)

Lin, I was wondering about that Japanese rose too, since you gave me a bit of it last fall. I saw one like it at the Calloways yesterday, and I should have written down what it said on the label. Now I'll have to go back cause it was a name I can't remember. Anyway, mine is doing great, whatever it is.

Sylvia, I was out looking at my vines yesterday and I have everything except hyacinth beans coming up. I might have one HB, but just as I was looking at it, my little DGS came around the corner with an open bag of garlic-flavored croutons, took a nose dive on the edge of the porch and set up a commotion that sent dogs and cats running in all directions.

I can dig a couple of pecan seedlings if anyone is interested. They're a bear to dig and pot out because of the long taproot, so if anyone wants them LMK before Friday night, please.

I will be bringing lots of extras of everything, and will be looking forward to seeing everyone again. I will post the signs early so no one gets lost.

Cheryl

Barefoot, I'll bring you some lemon balm for lunch,

Lin, I googled primrose jasmine and they are beautiful but apparently not hardy in my zone (7)...Cheryl says you gave her one last year and its doing well, and she is also in zone 7 (so maybe it really is a Japanese Rose?). I'll go ahead and try it, is there any way you could bring 2 so I can try one in a pot and one in the ground?

I was planning to dig up the white iris on my way and put them in plastic bags, is that acceptable or is there a better way?

FYI, this weekend is the Main St festival downtown so traffic may be heavy

Does anyone have blackfoot daisy and/or purple gomphrena or even know where one can buy these?

Thanks!

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

I am new to the TX forum. I would enjoy attending the 4/10 swap in FtW, but I don't know how it works. Do I have to make prior arrangements with the other attendees as to which plants I want, or can I walk around and "shop"? If the rules are stated somewhere on the website, please refer me where to find these.

 o
Welcome!

Gmato,
I'm sure Sylvia will direct you to the rules, they are posted here somewhere as their own thread. No, you don't have to pre-arrange swaps but you should plan to bring something plant or gardening related to trade, I am pretty sure there is nothing for sale, just swaps.

This will be my first time too so blind leading blind, but I have read alot of posts on this
Welcome!

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Ok Cheryl, I'm here and I'm bringing you lots of Blue sedum, I haven't looked at this page for over a week I was in East Texas working my flower beds down there or is it out there? Anyway know one was talking when i checked it so that's my excuse and I'm stickin to it.(smile)

Pam,I'm glad your coming, and thank you for the cannas but I would also like crocosmia, water iris and leeks if you have extra. I have some kind of onions that bunch but not sure if that's what you want. I can bring you Forsythia and quince cuttings I have not started any of those this year and I also have Mimosa if they are up and I can find them I usually mow them down.

Susan, I have Blue sedum and Autumn Joy and some other ones that bloom if you like.LMK. do you have any of the Terracotta Yarrow left if so I would like one.

Lin, anything you bring is fine with me.

Sylvia, I don't see me on your trade list aren't you bringing me anything?

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Nik/Granburyflowergirl - I'll bring you an extra so you won't lose it. I'll also have some extra "goodies" at the swap so you can see if there's something else you want in the trade. . . Iris in plastic bags would be perfect - I usually stick 'em in one of my many boxes with soil when I get home with them, then plant them when I can.

Phyllis, glad you're back and I want to see pics of east Texas!

I'll finish getting organized today and post a final list of pre-trades. Remember there will be more at the swap so bring your extra plants or garden accessories to swap!

Lin

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Gmatofour, hit the back button from here and look for the other headings that are about the Rules, Head Count and It's Official. Those threads all have information about pre-trades, where to go, what to do, and who to see. If there's one thing (other than gardening) this group can do it's gab on the internet. Our threads are the longest, gabbiest, friendliest and funniest threads anywhere on GW.

If you start to suffer information overload, just come on out to the swap and have a hot dog and talk about gardening and plants. Life just doesn't get any better than this. Cheryl

 o

Welcome, Gmatofour!

Just bring your own self & anything garden-related or yummy & you are in bidness!

Susan I added daffs & iris to my list for you.

Dandylyon, I'm not actually looking at my plants right now, so of course I can't think of anything, but I'll look for some eye-popping color;
I'm pretty sure I have flame acanthus, which grows huge if you don't keep it in line with a whip & a chair, but it has wonderful tubular flowers for bees & such, & I'm thinking there's some more coral honeysuckle out there.

Phyllis, yes, of course I am bringing you something.

I am bringing you 12 kittens. :)

(I don't see a photo, either.)

I forgot, I also have some desert willow seed pods.
http://www.guzmansgreenhouse.com/desert-trees/desert-willow.jpg

Barkingdogs, it's a deal! Elder for sweet flag.
Seamommy, can I possibly have a pecan? Please look at my list, above, and see if you can find something to trade for.

PhyllisB, did you mean me? Pam's and my usernames are similar. I'd love to trade you some crocosmia, water iris, and leeks for your onions, forsythia, quince, and mimosa. Is there something else on my list I can force you to take? I think I have a yellow water canna coming up that you might like.

Susan, sure, I'll pot you up some leeks for the teracotta yarrow. You did mean me, right? Not Pam?

Sorry for the name confusion everyone,
Sally

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Phyllis,
I have dug and cleaned the short yellow cannas, but they are bare root. I have bags for you, Sylvia and Lin and a 30 gallon mineral bucket almost full for the orphan table. I really just want a good home for the cannas because I only dug up maybe half of them from the yard. That's my new veggie garden.

Hi Cheryl,
I have a nice sized bag of the tall orange cannas, cleaned and trimmed, but bare root. If you want more, just let me know. Don't tell Sylvia, but I had to compost a lot of those because you were the only person that wanted any. There's a boat load left out there still in my sunflower bed space and they do need to go, but my knee and back couldn't handle any more today :-) I can't wait to see the painted pot, I'm sure it's precious!

I will be at work during the festivities, but my husband said that he could take the plants for me if Mudauber is busy.

The other Pam ;-)

 o
RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

Hi Pam -

I have the Bengal Tiger/Pretoria and what I think is Tropicana cannas in a pot for you :) I hope you enjoy them as much as I'll enjoy the short yellow ones.

Lin

Hi Pam, this is Pam. ;-)
Please go immediately to your compost pile and pull some cannas out for me!!! Short or tall it doesn't matter...
And please look on my list for a trade. Surely you will want something from one of us? I do have some tall red cannas if you would like some of those.

-Sally (the non-canna killing ponder)

RE: Ft Worth Spring Swap 4 10 10 Haves & Wants Continued

RNDEEKI and anyone else who doesn't have prearranged trades, you should still come and bring some plants or food or garden stuff. You don't have to do the pre-trades to get nice things in return, there will be plenty of trading going on once we get there. I will have lots of extras that I will be insisting on giving away to anyone who will take them. My goal is to not take home any of the stuff that I brought, and I bring lots of stuff in addition to the things for the pre-trades. Oh, please join us. Cheryl
