| For the benefit of any newcomers I will be hanging out the signs on the corner of university and the street that goes to the zoo, I think it's Constitution, and then also on the corner by the parking lot next to our pavilion. Also, it's a bit of a trek (about 50 yards I think) from the parking lot to the pavilion, so you may want to bring a cart or wagon if you have one to drag your plants and goodies. If you don't have one or can't carry it in your car, don't worry, there will be lots of others who will. Also, bring anything that you might need for your personal comfort, handi wipes and/or hand sanitizer come to mind. There's a porta-pottie nearby, but don't count on it having enough TP to go around. I keep some in my car all the time, a little buttwipeh is good for thousand different uses. Also, bring your garden gloves, pruners, hat, skeeter-beater, shades, and printed information about the plants you bring in case someone needs them. If you think you might like to take home some rose cuttings, it would be a good idea to bring along tags to write on and a big bucket to put them in. I don't know what Barkingdogwoods (Lin) has planned for this swap, but when she brings rose cuttings, she brings Lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ong rose cuttings, and they need lots of room. Don't feel like you have to participate in the pre-swaps like a lot of folks do here. Even if you don't have a lot of plants, you can always bake something or make something. We love food and garden-related crafts. One year I got a cedar post from someone in exchange for a couple bags full of iris bulbs-and I think both of us felt like we got the better end of the deal. Black plastic garden pots are good for a swap. Sylvia loves coffee, I love licorice jelly beans, and someone else, I can't remember who, really swoons for anything chocolate. Oh yeah, I think that was me too. Anyway you get the idea. Cheryl |

| Rogers Best Black, which did great for me last year. Similar to Black Krim, I am told. Indian Stripe, similar to Cherokee Purple, fruits are a bit smaller and more productive. Think I also have Spudakee, a potato leaf version of Cherokee Purple. First time trying this year. Brandy Boy, a pink hybrid cross by Burpee. First time with it this year. Pearson, red, suppossed to do well here in Texas. First time. Donskoi, a red heart. First time. Super Beefsteak, Big Beef, both red hybrids. A few others, I can't recall at the moment (I'm at work!) |

| Susan, the Tradescant cuttings that I took last autumn haven't rooted; I don't know if I did something wrong, or if the weird weather messed them up, or if Tradescant just doesn't like for its stems to be stuck in a pot of soil! so... If you'd like, & if you have, oh, I don't know, 6 or 8 zillion tomatoes, I'll be happy to bring you a mature Tradescant in a pot. Of course, if you want to try the cuttings, I'll be happy to bring you cuttings instead or in addition. |

| Sylvia, I was in the mulch pile and found this tree limb about 4 ft/ tall and it was still green and had roots developing with a yelluw bloom, now.this was the mulch that came in 2 or 3 yrs. ago. what do you think? Brenda, still no tad poles,but I have seen frogs maybe thier picking out mates. |

| Hi folks - I have posted a couple of requests and trades but have not heard back from the folks. I don't consider a trade "firm" unless there is agreement from both parties on what is to be exchanged, and there are items I won't be digging up or hauling unless I have a firm trade. Please try to confirm the trade, or say "no thanks" and make things easier on those of us who don't want to haul a bunch of plants over and back home because the trade isn't what we expected. Thanks! | Geez, Sylvia, not too demanding r ya? ;P I don't have nearly that many mater plants. I could probably bring you like 10 or so. As long as you aren't too picky about what you get! :D Don't worry about the cutting. I have never been successful with cuttings, so it wouldn't work out for me either. | Lin/barkingdogwoods I was working in the yard and was going through my brug cuttings, for some reason, I lost most of the cuttings over the last few weeks since I last checked them. I only have 3 left and they might not make it. I would prefer not to give you any until I am 100% that are going to make and are 100% disease free. If and when the originals come up and are big enough to take cuttings I can bring you some. |

| Hi Sylvia, in case you didn't get my email, by having to be in Ft. Worth on Monday after the swap means I can not make the swap on Saturday. I would love to get a start of the spanish bluebells come fall if at all possible. I will be at a couple of plant sales this weekend in the hill country (including Wildseed Farms), so will see what goodies I can get started over the Summer for the Fall swap. Sorry I can't make it as this swap looks like it is going to be a great one. |

| Right now, I plan to be at the swap. Being in a new place and unmotivated to even start seeds this winter due to not having any (decent) planting beds yet, I have pretty much nothing to bring. But I love seeing and visiting with everyone. I'll bring my wagon for others to use, and I can help people unload and set up or maybe help Sylvia with the door prize stuff? Where ever I'm needed I'll be there. |

| Susan, thanks so much! Can I bring you something besides the rooted fig cutting? Maybe some basil, parsley, or dill that I started from seed? Or would you want two fig cuttings (one which is a bit smallish)? I'm glad you said that you're bringing extra perennials. We'll probably have some extras too - some chocolate mint maybe, some salvias, perhaps some aster, maybe some ground covers - so we can do some horse-trading at the swap. And as an idea to folks that don't have plants to trade - a trip to the dollar store would turn up lots of gardening stuff for swapping - e.g. plant hooks, garden ornaments - and something from the dollar store is a good swap for a small pot... I may have to swing by to see what's there myself. I love spring! |

I watered with weakend fish emulsion and they tore it up. (guess they liked the smell) I'll have to repot one or two, the rest seem to be coming around. Grrrrr... Susan |

| Susan, since I have a house full of dogs I share your pain. They like to "graze" on the potted plants on the patio. What's worse, though, is that some little critters keep going in the greenhouse where the seeds are and nipping off the seedlings. I just put them all back under a cover to save them... Grrrr! As far as one fig being enough - maybe you can look over my "extras" on my table and pick up something else you might like. . . (this is Sylvia's new idea, and I like it for when I think I'm getting way more than I'm giving in a trade...) Nik, you're giving me an AWFUL lot for that thug - there's got to be something else I'm bringing that you'll want. How about if you look over my table of stuff and find something that appeals to you. |

| Oh, I think chicks are definitely garden items, they're pretty as flowers, and they will live in your garden and eat everything in it. I would like to have all of your heavy breed chicks (and of course pay the going rate for them since that's what you raised them for) that you need to move. I will bring a box for them. I can't take the cute little small breeds, since they really take a beating from the larger ones in the yard. | You know, I might actually HAVE a pink butterfly bush. I don't remember if it was pink or light purple. I grabbed more than I needed when they were on sale last fall, with the idea that if I lost a few I would still have all I wanted. But lo and behold, they call came back, so I have an extra. Small, about a foot tall. Elephant garlic sounds great! I'm trying to keep more edibles in the garden. I assume they're edible, being called garlic and all! |

| My goodness, time just flew by! I'm sending yellow cannas with orange spots (2-4 foot tall) for PhyllisB and Sylvia. Sylvia is sending me a canna in return. I still have many of the short yellow cannas and tall orange cannas if anyone is interested. My tomato and pepper seedlings are really still too tiny to share. I need to coordinate with Mudauber (Billy) and Mrs. Billy to get these to the swap. I really don't want anything in return, just feel guilty about composting all of them if someone may want them and I need the space that they are in. Pam |

| Just a reminder I have lost all of my brug cuttings this year. So Lin and bloomingirl I have nothing to trade. For anyone that interested, I do have some trellis scrap that I am about to take out the dump. Some if it is big enough to use for a small plant If you want it all there is about a pickup load's worth. Most range in a 3ft by 4ft sections or smaller. |

| I'm a little worried about someone who always shows up at the swap, but never has anything to trade, are you sure you're a gardener? You didn't have anything to trade last year either, not even a seed. Have you tried watering? I'm thinking we may need to come over to your house and do one of those makeover TV shows on your yard. Remember, the definition of the word 'swap' is an even trade, an exchange of goods that is satisfactory to both parties. C'mon, before you get the reputation, you need to ante up or fold. |

| This season I had only planed on trading the brugs, between sprinkler system failure while on vacation and a greenhouse collapse in below freezing temps I lost most of trades and most of my favorite plants. If I get the time I plan on going through the rest of my pants and supplies. I have a lot of extra stuff that need to find a new home. But that wont be until next fall. As I should of said in the previous post. Because I do not have anything to trade, I am canceling any trades I have made and will only come if I find something I know I can find a home for. I had thought by the earlier posts the trades were canceled but no one responded so I thought I would send out another message so one would waste their time getting things set to trade if I did not show up. |

| Don't really have a whole lot of plants to trade this year, but I will be bringing the lemon thyme cookies again, and some other baked goods. I have a few small scent pillows, and a couple of sachets. My front yard is in desperate need of color, and I would reallllly like some gerbera daisies. I could also use some more lavender (any variety) and purple coneflower. And anything else colorful/"showy." Thanks! dandylyon |

| Hi Sally (planopondnut) - how about some sweet flag for some elderberries? Nik and Phyllis - I have some potentially bad news about the thug (that I've been calling Japanese rose for years) - it MAY be primrose jasmine, which is a bush jasmine, that was mislabeled. I'm hoping the leaves come out enough to verify, but it's still a lovely yellow-blooming arching stemmed shrub with nice yellow blooms in the spring and throughout the summer. | OK, Phyllis, I asked for a trade for a bit of your blue sedum a couple of times, we're almost down to the wire. LMK if it's a trade, and I still want the smile too!) Lin, I was wondering about that Japanese rose too, since you gave me a bit of it last fall. I saw one like it at the Calloways yesterday, and I should have written down what it said on the label. Now I'll have to go back cause it was a name I can't remember. Anyway, mine is doing great, whatever it is. Sylvia, I was out looking at my vines yesterday and I have everything except hyacinth beans coming up. I might have one HB, but just as I was looking at it, my little DGS came around the corner with an open bag of garlic-flavored croutons, took a nose dive on the edge of the porch and set up a commotion that sent dogs and cats running in all directions. I can dig a couple of pecan seedlings if anyone is interested. They're a bear to dig and pot out because of the long taproot, so if anyone wants them LMK before Friday night, please. I will be bringing lots of extras of everything, and will be looking forward to seeing everyone again. I will post the signs early so no one gets lost. Cheryl |

| Barefoot, I'll bring you some lemon balm for lunch, Lin, I googled primrose jasmine and they are beautiful but apparently not hardy in my zone (7)...Cheryl says you gave her one last year and its doing well, and she is also in zone 7 (so maybe it really is a Japanese Rose?). I'll go ahead and try it, is there any way you could bring 2 so I can try one in a pot and one in the ground? I was planning to dig up the white iris on my way and put them in plastic bags, is that acceptable or is there a better way? FYI, this weekend is the Main St festival downtown so traffic may be heavy |

| I am new to the TX forum. I would enjoy attending the 4/10 swap in FtW, but I don't know how it works. Do I have to make prior arrangements with the other attendees as to which plants I want, or can I walk around and "shop"? If the rules are stated somewhere on the website, please refer me where to find these. |

No, you don't have to pre-arrange swaps but you should plan to bring something plant or gardening related to trade, I am pretty sure there is nothing for sale, just swaps. This will be my first time too so blind leading blind, but I have read alot of posts on this |

Anyway know one was talking when i checked it so that's my excuse and I'm stickin to it.(smile) Pam,I'm glad your coming,and thank you for the cannas but I would also like crocosmia,water iris and leeks if you have extra. I have some kind of onions that bunch but not sure if that's what you want. I can bring you Forsythia and quince cuttings I have not started any of those this year and I also have Mimosa if they are up and I can find them I usually mow them down. Susan, I have Blue sedum and Autumn Joy and some other ones that bloom if you like.LMK. do you have any of the Terracotta Yarrow left if so I would like one. Lin, anything you bring is fine with me. | Nik/Granburyflowergirl - I'll bring you an extra so you won't lose it. I'll also have some extra "goodies" at the swap so you can see if there's something else you want in the trade. . . Iris in plastic bags would be perfect - I usually stick 'em in one of my many boxes with soil when I get home with them, then plant them when I can. Those threads all have information about pre-trades, where to go, what to do, and who to see. If there's one thing (other than gardening) this group can do it's gab on the internet. Our threads are the longest, gabbiest, friendliest and funniest threads anywhere on GW. | Hi Phyllis, I have dug and cleaned the short yellow cannas, but they are bare root. I have bags for you, Sylvia and Lin and a 30 gallon mineral bucket almost full for the orphan table. I really just want a good home for the cannas because I only dug up maybe half of them from the yard. That's my new veggie garden. Hi Cheryl, I will be at work during the festivities, but my husband said that he could take the plants for me if Mudauber is busy. The other Pam ;-) |

Heather, for a daylily and Danish flag poppy seeds, I am bringing a rooted Confederate rose cutting and winter honeysuckle. Nik - for white iris, tiny pecan, and raspberry, I am bringing two of the primrose jasmine (and your pick of something else). Pam - for short yellow cannas, I am bringing striped cannas (Pretoria and Tropicana). Phyllis - for blue sedum and a pink lily, I am bringing Carolina buckthorn and a primrose jasmine. Sally - for sweet flag, I am bringing elderberries. Susan - for bog sage and solidago fireworks, I am bringing some rooted fig cuttings (and care info) plus your pick of anything that catches your fancy. Just to list some extras that I hope to remember: Can't wait! The weather should be beautiful! |

| RNDEEKI and anyone else who doesn't have prearranged trades, you should still come and bring some plants or food or garden stuff. You don't have to do the pre-trades to get nice things in return, there will be plenty of trading going on once we get there. I will have lots of extras that I will be insisting on giving away to anyone who will take them. My goal is to not take home any of the stuff that I brought, and I bring lots of stuff in addition to the things for the pre-trades. Oh, please join us. Cheryl |
