Denton County 2014 Fall Swap

Sunday, October 19, 2014
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Mc Innish Park
2335 Sandy Lake Rd, Carrollton, TX

Its time to share some plants and fellowship with fellow gardeners! Last time we did this in June it turned out fantastic. Its a great location.

Hostess-

Shari Withey 940-458-1273
willowbendgarden@aol.com

Lets keep it real simple this time. No door prize drawing. Bring your own chairs and tables if you need them.

Let's each bring a picnic lunch and drinks.

There are no restroom facilities close by and the river is RIGHT THERE so be advised you must keep watch of your kids.

Location: Mc Innish Park Just off 35/George Bush on Sandy Lake Rd. It is west of Sandy Lake Park.

Please print out these Directions and Shari's phone number in case you have trouble finding the swap site.

Once you turn onto the road into the park, but before you go through the gate --- turn off towards the rt. This road winds around and takes you back under Sandy Lake Road. There is a small area at the end of that road that sits on the bank of the river. Its shaded and very pleasant and quiet. People fishing and put canoes in and out at that location.

If 2:00 is too late for your lunch.. come earlier. I'm gonna try to be there 1ish.

Hope to see lots of you Denton County Gardeners there!

I am looking forward to the swap and what a difference in weather we had yesterday. I could not believe how dark it had gotten and how the rain came down. I was driving in it and the street I was on it didn't matter which lane you were in because the water was high in both lanes.

Plant swap - yippee I will be there about 1pm, just cause I like to be early.

    Hi,

I'm new and never been to a swap before. Since this is so close to me, I really want to go check it out and experience it first hand.

I checked other (past) swaps, and people posted their haves and wants. But I don't see any here. I'm hoping to see what others will bring or wish for :)

Kachana, I'm glad you posted! Welcome.

Most of those attending this swap don't post here or haven't posted in a long time.
We have a meet up group you are welcome to come check out. Link posted below. There are at least 6 from our meet up group going and 2 other meet up groups have been invited, several from those groups have responded they plan to attend. No one has posted any wants or haves yet.

You can post your interests here or there if you'd like.

I'm still recovering from surgeries and getting ready for more so my gardening has been put on hold since last fall. :( Hoping to get going next Jan with winter sowing and come spring be back in the swing of things.

Please don't let the lack of posts keep you from attending. This bunch isn't all that big on posting on line. I guess they are shy.

I am looking for Pride of Barbados seeds.

Have Columbine seeds, Coneflower Seeds (purple) both of these were harvested from my yard this year. Haven't gone through the other seeds of what I have to trade. I may have pods on my milk weed as well. I am home to check what I will bring Sunday. I don't always check here so anyone is welcome to call me on my cell 469-223-0982.

    Gretchen,

I do not have Pride of Barbados seeds (caesalpinia pulcherrima), but I have 1-month old seeldings for red and pink flowers. I bought the seeds from Ebay, and do not know if I really did get what I paid for. I can bring them for you if you're still interested.

Did you see these at the entrance of the Dallas World Aquarium? They were gorgeous.

I prefer seeds and no so much plants cause I leave on vacation next Wednesday and I am sure the boys will kill something while we are gone. Ten day vacation to Amsterdam and Switzerland on a river cruise. Am excited to go.

Wow, lucky you! Have fun on this cruise.

Totally understand by the boys LOL. See you at the swap.

Just in case someone sees this, I would love to have some brugmansia (any), rose (any), and hydrangea (paniculata & oakleaf) cuttings please and thank you.

I have some small rooted brugs that I rooted this spring that I can bring and I have a climbing rose pale pink and a native praire rose. If you're interestd in any I can set aside for you. Would love a pride of Barbados no matter how small!

    abarbie4me,

They are yours (yellow, red, and pink flowered ones). Keep this in mind, the seeds were bought from eBay, and I do not know if the promised color will come true or not. They also said they could flower in the first year, so ...

And yes, please, I would love your brug and any rose cuttings you have.

I can bring some fresh Kaffir Lime cuttings if anyone interested. And also, a curry leaf plant -- a small one, about 6-8" tall.

    Thanks,

    Kachana

I think we have 14 people who say they're going to the swap.
Counting from here on Garden Web and the 2 meet up groups.

Should be a fun, relaxed gathering of gardeners. :)

There are no tables or chairs at this spot. Bring them if you need them.
Also no facilities close by either. Should you need them you'll have to drive to another area of the park.

Bring your own lunch and drinks.

I'm hoping there might be some interest in getting together over the winter to work on crafty things. So put your thinking caps on and lets get on with it. I know Gretchen is on board with that.

I love crafts. I did my first hypertufa pots and leaves recently and they were a lot of fun. Posted pics at the bottom under my post of "my finds an yard"

I have some baby aloe plants if anyone is interested. I will also bring the hydrangea cuttings for Kachana. The butterfly bush that I rooted I don't know if it will do anything and with me going on vacation the boys will only water what is out front. I can root after I get back from vacation.

I am bringing some black pots that I would like to see go to a happy home. I will be bringing cuttings of Hydrangeas to Kachana. I have mixed Columbine seeds as well as purple coneflower seeds and I will check my supply of other seeds. I look forward to seeing everyone in a few hours.

I wanted to thank everyone that attended the swap for their warmth and generosity of sharing your plants/seeds/cuttings, knowledge, and food. Thank you Shari for hosting also. I really enjoyed meeting all of you.

I came home with so many seeds and cuttings and plants. I'm googling like crazy on how to take care of the plants and cuttings LOL.

abarbie4me2: Here's some care info about the Tower of Jewels you got: Echium Wildpretii container care/ino

And for the person that got my hydrangea , these pictures show how yours may look like when it blooms. I'm lucky to get this cutting to bloom:

Thanks once again. Gretchen, have a fun and safe cruise.
