Sorry I can't help you with your question but I think you might get more help if you post on the discussions page. There's a lot more traffic. The gallery page is where people post pictures and not everyone looks very often.

You also might want to be a little more specific about your soil or where you are if you don't know much about your soil's make up. People from your area will know if it's more acid or alkaline and will be able to zero in on the things best suited to your area.

Podany, Hesperaloe is frequently planted in parking lots.If you are willing to wait about 3 years for the plants to bloom, you could collect seeds from those plants in fall. Nobody would care. I did it years ago with very good results.

Mara, all good suggestions, but where to get those plants at a low cost?

I know it's not politically correct to plant Nandinas since they seed themselves around in localities where there is any moisture (I've never had them do that in the fields of my dry neighborhood), but they make a great drought tolerant colorful evergreen hedge. You can get them for about $5 at many nurseries.

How about germanders several of the dhrub gernders will fill the bill.shrubby germanders ( teucrium ructicans), Teucrium chamaedrys (upright germander) , mexican oregano. it will grow easily from cuttings.,
