And now that I try to post a 2nd photo, the photo option again doesn't show up. I am sooo confused.

follow-up questions: if it is a bur oak . . .
a) is 7ft too close to the street?
b) will it tolerate being transplanted?

Hey there Freshair, I got a look at your little tree, and it certainly LOOKS like a Bur Oak. It should tolerate transplanting, although you may want to wait until it goes dormant so you don't run the risk of it getting Oak Wilt. The biggest problem you might find with transplanting the tree is that it may have a very long taproot.

It's apparently a pretty slow growing tree, only gaining about a foot a year, so it may eventually grow to the point that 7 feet is to close to the road, but probably not for another 100 years. :-)

That's pretty much what I had decided . . .
a) crazy long taproot, but
b) won't outgrow the site until its some other owner's problem.

It looks as if we'll be keeping it.
