My bluebirds seem to be of the Eastern bluebird variety. I think I have never seen a Western one before.........cool !!!

Austin seems to be right on the dividing line of a lot of species. I don't get Blue Jays. I get their cousins, the western scrub jay. I also get the western equivalent for the wipporwill(a Poor Will) and a woodpecker.

This is my target species for my wildlife exemption, so I am stoked. I have cleaned their nest out of my 22 nest boxes but I have never seen them in the one close to the house before. Maybe I am blind.

Mine are very shy little birds, and I see larger numbers of them when the hackberries get ripe. I have left two of these trash trees for the birds, and one is located where I have a great view of the birds who feed on them. I did not get my houses cleaned out this year, so fear I may not have as many as usual.

They are shy. I tried to get closer , but I couldn't. They don't like going to the feeder because it is too close to the shop. I would stand hidden behind a pillar on the shop porch 50' away and the raising of the camera would send them flying off.
