I used to have one and when mine bloomed I used to think I could almost see fairies dancing on the petals.

Thanks to all. They are very pretty, but gone by morning, so you have to stay up late to enjoy them.

I once had a hanging basket that had upwards of 30 or more blooms at once. This was in the days before digital cameras and I had no film in my old 35 mm. I had been watching the buds for days, and then one night about 10:30 I smelled the most delicious fragrance wafting in the bedroom window. It was blooming! Bob was asleep, the neighbor's lights were out so I had no one to share the magical event with. As Jim says all were gone by early morning. But I'll never forget it!

People often thought it was a stag horn fern as it hung from low branches of a pecan tree by the pool. It was a huge and heavy thing and I'd lug it in the family room for the winter. One winter I didn't take it down in time to save it from freezing. :-(

Oh well, beauty like fame is sometimes very fleeting, but I'm thankful for the memory.

wow these are nice. I didn't know they bloom like that. Everytime I wake up around 6 the flower have gone down already. I wish it would stay full bloom for a day. I just threw a way a lot of stems. Lucky I didn't throw all of it away lol. I notice they have a slight fragrant smell.

Goodness, I have never seen a fruit on one. Is that the same plant. That is cool

 o
RE: I was out late last night with a 'Lady of the Night'

It is the same plant and I have never seen one fruit either. A couple of places I googled, said they are good to eat. Kind of like kiwi.

The fruit has turned completely red now. Does anyone know how to tell when it is ripe? Will it get soft?

Jim, Night Blooming Cereus is the same as Dragon fruit, right?
I believe it is ripe when red maybe someone else knows for sure

 o
RE: I was out late last night with a 'Lady of the Night'

No Jolana, they aren't the same. I've got both. The Dragon fruit has a triangular stem, while the Night Blooming cereus stems are round, among other differences. But when I google it, I have to read carefully,to be sure which plant is being discussed because there is quite a bit of confusion.
