New Water Feature

We have an "L" shaped deck because it wrapped around a huge silver maple that has sadly gone on to tree heaven. So we had just placed a bunch of pots in the area till we decided what to do with it.

I'd been longingly eyeing these fountains made of drilled out rocks at Creative by Nature in McKinney so we finally took the plunge and went and bought one but we decided to do it DIY.

We had a lot extra gravel left over from doing the dry creek bed (still going to post pics of that eventually) so we used that to fill in the rest of the square and then put the pots back around.

Unfortunately all those Salvia coccinea had their blooms eaten by the caterpillars of those Southern pink moths, so they got a dose of BT. I think it will be really pretty if more stuff is blooming.

Added the driftwood, which for reasons unknown to me was in the attic when we bought the house. Trimmed up the cloth. All done!

Nice! I like the fact that it provides water for the garden creatures without the work of maintaining a regular pond.

That IS nice! I bet the stone will grow some interesting moss; and yes, so easy for the birds to get to. I like the two sizes of stones you've used around it also. Thanks for giving us a walk through the process! Will look forward to pictures of the dry creek bed too.

Here's a shot of the finished area with better light.

Speaking of critters, I was watering my fall tomatoes yesterday. They are in grow bags against the east side of the house so they get only morning sun right now. I guess they've made a nice moist little cave up against the house, check out the little guy I found hiding out in between them.

As far as I can tell, it's a leopard frog. Anyone else know if that's right?

I love the water feature! You will really enjoy it next to the deck!

I am pretty sure that leopard frogs have an eye stripe like a ninja :-) He's so pretty with the green on his back!

It's a Tyranasaurus rex. I used to have a dog that I swear needed glasses. After we got him we put him on the deck. This dog went out side and barked at him for probably 30 straight minutes. Just cracked me up. The others took a look, sniffed him once and lost interest.

I enjoy him a lot too!
